    Terrible Front Brakes

I have had a suddenly bad brake issue related to a little fork oil seepage or brake fluid seepage onto the pads or rotor. Start cheap and spend later.

    Brake Master Cylinder Reservoir O-Ring

Hi Jeff, I dropped 2 into the mail, because nobody should own just 1 XS650.;) Nice country out your way. I was through there in early July heading home from a cross country dualsport ride. Enjoy. Gary

    Alternate off-road bike suggestions.

For off-road 2 track I would recommend the XT-250 if light-ish is important. The wife and I just completed a 7500 mile trip down the Appalachians on the Mid-Atlantic Backcountry Discovery Route and then crossing the country on the Trans-America trail. Alot of forest service roads, dirt roads and...

About To Do a Bad Thing

If you are using the carbs that came with your '99 motor, they are Mikuni BST40.

    Flasher Unit

I have found that turn signals require full voltage to operate. Try testing with the engine at a fast idle or with a charger connected to the battery. You may also need to clean up wiring connections to the flasher.

    Shutdown in the rain

Again, thank you for the responses. I eliminated bad gas as a possibility. Also it is not plugged carbs. Fuel system seems fine. The plan moving forward is to check and waterproof the coils, clean and dielectric grease all connectors and possibly get the TCI boxes overhauled. At this point in...

    Shutdown in the rain

Thanks for the suggestions. Both bikes were charging fine. (Voltmeters on both) I didn't check the air filters but 1 runs pods and the other is stock with good filters. I could see the pods getting soaked but I don't see how that much water could infiltrate the stock filters. Something to test...

    Shutdown in the rain

I know that i will have to do some digging on my own, I'm wondering where folks would start looking. Wife and I took a ride around Nova Scotia this summer for a week, which of course meant some rain. The machines were a late '80 and an early '81, so identical specs. Both ran great in dry...

    XS650 stainless steel engine hardware

My go-to for odd metric hardware is www.belmetric.com. They carry more JIS fasteners than the industrial supply houses.

    Copper sealing washers.

My go-to for this type of hardware is belmetric.com. They will ship any quantity and have a good selection.

    Brake Master Cylinder Reservoir O-Ring

Hi Evan, The JIS stands for Japan Industrial Standard. The P40 describes the size. I don't remember the specific material of these but it was brake fluid rated. I'll drop it in tomorrows mail. Gary

    Brake Master Cylinder Reservoir O-Ring

The XS650 O-ring is a JIS P40. If you have the same size master cylinder, let me know your address and I can mail you one. I bought a bunch when I needed them.
