Pulling the Case Apart for the 1st time: What all should I be checking?

If you don't want to break the cam chain apart, you can still disassemble the top end. Remove the cam covers and slide off the bearings from the camshaft and you can then have enough slack in the cam chain to remove the cam from the head.

Pulling the Case Apart for the 1st time: What all should I be checking?

One thing I would suggest is you make sure you remove all the case bolts and nuts before you try prying the cases apart. There is one nut holding the crankcases together inside the clutch cover.

I also have a 65 CB77 apart in my basement. Looks like yours with the frame on the bench and the engine together on the floor. Mine was originally a white one, but the previous owner sprayed it avacado green, without masking or removing anything. Got to love those old hippies. A few years ago...

Neutral light always on and flasher blows fuses. 75

To save your fuse budget. Remove the fuse that blows and replace it with a light bulb. The bulb will light when a short is present. When you locate the short the light will go out. Repair the short and then swap the light bulb for the original fuse.

What have you done to your XS today?

I would go with the hair dryer. I derusted a tank using a POR15 kit and they recommended using a hair dryer and it worked for me.

What have you done to your XS today?

If your bars are original that plug may be original equipment. Yamaha installed them in the 650 handlebars. Not sure if all years had them.

David Aldana, a great racer, just was acting his age in those days. Now, he has a few regrets from those days according to some articles.

What have you done to your XS today?

I drained and removed the gas tanks from both of my 77 Standard and 80 Special II. I keep them in the warm basement so I don't drop snow shovels on them over the winter. Also, keeps them from forming rust inside from condensation.
