    CLUTCH CABLE

Check out the Motion Pro website, my last batch came from there and I’m an Amazon Prime member. I always check Amazon.

    What a fuster...

When I came here, there was nothing. I had to get satellite internet. It was marginal at best. Lucky for me I got on a Starlink beta test right before covid 19 and that allowed me to work through the pandemic at home. Just now I’m getting fiber internet flyers in my mailbox. I’m putting them in...

    New clutch installed!!

They’re actually JIS, not Phillips. I’m glad you were successful in removing them. That’s why you saw hex heads in the video. Someone ruined the JIS heads somewhere along the timeline.

Side Cover Badge or Emblem Security

These plastic badges don’t fit all the way flush. The right side one keeps working loose, vibrates and is wearing away the paint. I have Emblem Adhesive and double sided Molding Tape. With which one am I more likely to achieve success followed by peace and tranquility.

1/4 outlet for a manual petcock.

Is there such a thing as a 1/4 inch outlet for the manual petcock sold by the usual suspects? The piece of 3/16 in hose inside the 1/4 in hose to the carburetors is a bit too Mickey Mouse for me.

    I need help with my 1980 XS650S

If the shop is telling you magneto, perhaps you’re at the wrong shop. PMA means “Permanent Magnet Alternator”, so it needs no battery to make electricity. This collective is going to need more information to help you. Start by taking the round cover off the left side and snap a photo. That’s...

I thought that bike was built on the forum. Seems it must’ve been elsewhere.

    Oil plugs

If those are the ones I linked, they are single use. If those are solid copper, you can anneal them. If those are the same as the ones sold by MikesXS they are the wrong size in my experience. An “oil pan” leak can fool you. If that gasket is leaking at the aft side oil may drip off of the...

    Oil plugs

The pan could be leaking. Make sure. What kind of crush washer? In the link below are foolproof seals. Not exactly cheap, but superior to anything else, IMHO. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/pnpages/AN900-19.php

78 XS650 Points conversion to TCI?

:agree: Based on all the hubbub I’ve read on this forum and the XS650 FB sites, I’m of the opinion that this is the best route to take. The stock TCI system is very robust. I’ve been running it for over 40 years. I’ve had a couple TCI boxes repaired and one failed pickup coil in all that...

    Gas cap rubber gasket

According to MikesXS, 2M0-24641-00 fits XS650 from 1976 to 1984. I don’t doubt them in this case.

    Gas cap rubber gasket

The one you posted looks the same as every one I’ve replaced. I can’t imagine any reason why the hole in the top of the tank would be anything but a standard size.

    Gas cap rubber gasket

I’m pretty sure it’s the same for SR500, XS1100 Special, etc. I’m pretty sure that style cap has one seal that fits all, even though the caps have slight differences.

    Gas cap rubber gasket

It’s listed as a separate part about every other year. Look at the parts breakdown for 1978 and 1979. The gasket is the same.

1980 XS650 Special II Charging problems.

Send your charging rotor to @Jim for a rewind. You won’t be sorry. I have at least three of his rotors.

    Gas cap rubber gasket

Try Part Shark or Partzilla. OEM price is about as low as they go.

    Gas cap rubber gasket

Buy an OEM fuel cap gasket if you can. Aftermarket ones are not of similar quality. With OE it’s one and done.
