    1976 XS500 Torque Issue

I has this idea on the back of my mind. How would I fix this fuel feed to the carbs issue. I don’t have fuel filters in so there is no restriction there. My petcocks are in good condition and I’m almost 99% sure the floats are set to the right height. What else would there be to provide fuel to...

    1976 XS500 Torque Issue

Hello everybody!! I am finally back posting questions as I am so close to getting my bike 100% fixed. My situation is as follows: Recently got a new condenser, points, and timed it properly to rule out an ignition issue. The bike runs fine at 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear on most flat and easy...

    ‘76 xs500 Carburetor tuning (BS38’s)

Haven’t been able to work on my bike that much lately since it’s been too humid outside. With that being said all the issues on my other threads may have been solved with what I fixed yesterday. My neighbor happened to have a carb balancing tool and he helped me work on doing that. We got the...

    1976 XS500 backfiring

I assume it’s a proper backfire. It doesn’t really do it at all on deceleration

    1976 XS500 backfiring

I have enough fuel in the tank and this is not a new problem no.

    1976 XS500 backfiring

Rode my bike down the block for a few minutes and noticed that the backfiring was bad. On a scale of 10 (10 being that is backfires every time it gets reved/decelerates) it was probably was about a 5 or 6. There were a few points where I would get the bike up to 30 mph and while getting it up to...

    1976 XS500 headlamp

Trying to continue my restoration of the bike and I charged my battery up to 100% and took it out for a little night drive down the block. The headlight works but isn’t as bright as it should be. Every other light is bright enough except the headlight. When I would rev it up the light would get...

    1976 Yamaha xs500 fuel/running problems

Could be. I’m not sure how to sync them, I sync-ed the butterfly’s last summer and they shouldn’t have changed since then if that’s what you mean by sync. Other than that I’m not sure.

    1976 Yamaha xs500 problems

Just started the bike up after a few kicks and let it sit at idle for like 3-4 minutes and noticed that the left side of the engine wasn’t as hot/warm as the right side of the engine. What would be the problem and solution to this? Just to note, there is no fuel restriction because the fuel...

    1976 Yamaha xs500 fuel/running problems

Did some work on those and they don’t leak anymore and got rid of the fuel filters so the gas flows very well right now. I did start it up again and still noticed the left side of the engine was not as hot as the right. Any reason for this problem??

    1976 Yamaha xs500 fuel/running problems

Can’t send you pictures today but I could try to get you some tomorrow. As of now the weird thing is they don’t leak when they’re in the off position but when I turn them on or on reserve they start leaking. Then I’ll turn them off and they will continue to drip for 5 minutes then stop while in...

    1976 Yamaha xs500 fuel/running problems

Just breaking out my bike finally to work on it since I can only work on it during the warmer weather and I noticed a couple problems. First was the petcocks were leaking. I bought new gaskets and the whole rebuild kit for them and that still didn’t work. I’ve always had problems with gas...

    XS500 carburetor problem.

Update: I just got the air filter in and they fit perfectly. Also bike runs differently with those on. One thing is I probably need to adjust the AF screws and jets again since it’s a better air filter. With this being known it only started with the choke on and after about 30 seconds I was able...

    XS500 carburetor problem.

I understand now. I didn’t realize that the air needed to travel into those ports without having turbulence. That would make complete sense. I measured the area where the filters would go and the UNI UP-4200 ones would fit so I went and bought them and they should get here Friday. So crossing my...

    XS500 carburetor problem.

I will make sure they fit and then order them. In the meantime I’m just trying to understand this better. Kind of wanting the carburetor knowledge as well. If I understand what I’m looking at and what I’m changing it makes it easier to work and more fun to work on the bike. So you’re saying...

    XS500 carburetor problem.

They’re Mikuni BS38 carbs so I think that means CV but not 100% sure. I also moved the needle pin back to the middle slot (where I had it before, you can see the symptoms of this 3rd position a couple reply’s up in this thread if your curious.) and I drove it down the street. It did seem to bog...
