    New wiring harness from mikesxs

Hello Everyone, Thank you for your suggestions. I found a motorcycle shop in the next town and found a mechanic that has had 3 XS650's. He found out that the Stator wasn't working, but when he took it off and cleaned it, it registered fine. Put it back on the bike and found that the regulator...

    New wiring harness from mikesxs

It looks like I am back to the charging system problem. I have replaced the rectifier, brushes, and bought a rewound rotor from custom rewind. I guess I will have to break down and see if the local motor cycle shop can help. Unless anyone has some other ideas. Thank you for everyone's help, I...

    New wiring harness from mikesxs

I have looked at the schematic for my bike and I think I have narrowed down the problems, but don't know where to go from here. My tach and speedometer don't have lights, they work, but no lights (which was the same with the old harness). The headlight is working now, but only because I have...

    New wiring harness from mikesxs

Ok. I have the new wiring harness in. Everything was the same connection. Now here's my issue. My headlight won't come on. I don't have any power from the green or yellow wire that goes to the headlight. Which was an issue before. A mechanic had wired the headlight directly to a blue wire in...

    New wiring harness from mikesxs

Hello everyone, I'm trying to put on a new wiring harness. I wonder if anyone has any pics or video. My old harness doesn't have the same looking fuse box (old one just has electrical tape with wired fuses.). I have downloaded the pdf of the manual, but it doesn't show a good pic of this...

    Starter gear question

I still have a leak out of the starter housing. I check it regularly. I found this product and wondered if anybody else had seen it. I thought about trying it to seal the leak. Pyro-Putty® 1000 sealant and metal repair compound is 2-part, powder and liquid system that operates to 1,400°F...

    Starter gear question

Ok. Looks like I still have a leak, but is less. Now after about a week it went dead. Oil was fine, but seems to have no battery power. I was able to jump it and got home. I am wondering if the mechanic using a live wire in the headlight area to get the headlight working did something to the...

    Starter gear question

Looks good so far. I was able to get the cover on and bolts tightened. Since it's cold here decided to put oil in and wait to put outside cover on until tomorrow afternoon to check for any leaks. This evening there still was no signs of leakage. Hopefully it will stay that way. I will finish...

    Starter gear question

Well got 4 of 6 bolts in. Man it's tough to get the bottom bolts in. Going to work on it again tomorrow afternoon. Really feel good about solving the leak. Will post after I get oil in it. Thanks for the help. I went to the local hardware store and picked up a wavy washer.

    Starter gear question

I do have one question on the starter gear housing wear the shaft sits it looks like there was a washer or some type of round metal. I don't see this in any of the manuals that I have. Anyone have any ideas? Looks like a thin washer, but is wavy.

    Starter gear question

Sorry. It's been cold and the cycle was in the barn. Just took the starter gear housing off and the JB weld is still intact and there doesn't seem to be any more of a crack. But it does look like where the crack was it was uneven where the seal would be. I'm going to take your advice and double...

    Starter gear question

Ok. Sounds like a plan. I will break into it this weekend and see what I find. Sounds like adding he mentioned items above might be the trick. I'll make another seal and put the new cover on. Then cross my fingers. Thank you for the ideas.

    Starter gear question

I'm not sure either it was leaking there when I bought the bike this summer. When I got the charging system working I opened it up to see why it was leaking and I found the crack. Thought i would give JB Weld a shot. So now on to see what is best suggestion to fix. Where would you suggest to...

    Starter gear question

Unfortunately it still leaks. Not sure if it's from the crack in the gear or the seal from the cover. I have a new cover, but not sure which direction to go. I haven't opened it back up yet to see if any things changed. I figure this is going to be the next step. Possibly in the next week or so.
