Rubber isolators in the rear mounts for the oil tank.

Possible battery and fuse box location. Not set on it yet, but it'll clear the seat. Also my new bars from woodcraft showed up. Sidemount 35mm riser clipons. They bring the bars back about an inch and up a little over an inch. Definitely helps with reaching over the long tank.

I'm not too worried about it. I had to mill a step onto the support piece so it's pretty well locked in it's position. It's sandwiched between the plate and the carb connector bracket.

Hard mounted. Most bikes have the airbox hard mounted and a rather stiff rubber boot connecting it to the carbs. Not much vibration isolation happening, so I'm not worried about it. But the airbox and stuff connectors act as the rear support forthe carbs. I ordered a basically custom...

Details matter, added a carb support so that the manifolds don't have to do the work.

I did throw some foam on the seat, and I think this is where the footpegs will be. I have some cheap clipons coming today that put the bars 1" higher, so I'll recheck after I put those on. If I like the higher bars I will get better clip ons like the woodcraft ones. I'll spend $30 to try...

I have almost a full fab shop in my garage. Mill, lathe, MIG, TIG, 20t press, vapor blaster, parts washer, english wheel. Sometimes I can water jet a part during lunch break at work.

Made a slotted bar so that I can decide on footpeg location. This will let me move it through a pretty wide range and decide where it will be comfortable.

A bad shadetree mechanic. The bike itself looks very original, good enough for a polished survivor, or a good base for a resto. It might need a rebuild, or it might just need some oil in the cylinders and someone that knows the XS. Having a title makes it worth more too, ai know you can get...

So for the oil tank I bought a 2" monza cap, don't waste your money on the ones from India. Loose fit, pops open if you look at it funny, and probably can't seal. Spend the extra for a US or UK made one. Positive latching, tight pivot, and looks like it'll seal very well. I think the...

Front seat monts are done. I made pegs that push through a grommet.

Figured out the seat hold down for the rear. Dzus 1500 series sliding latch. I made a large washer to make sure the load is spread out. I'll be able to rear the latches past the oil tank to remove the seat. Since the battery and fuse box are going there that might be important.

Thanks. I'm really liking the level feet casters on the stand. With the garage mostly cleaned up it was easy to move to clean partially blocked areas.

Is it my turn? Anything to do with lathes, mills and other shop tools

I always jack it up, lower onto stands, then bring the jack to just touching. It might be redundant, but jacks and stands can fail.

For a metal table I've got one of these. It's pretty nice forthe relatively low cost...
