    Fuel Recommendation by Google AI

That was a joke BTW - plenty opinions out there for the AI to summarise.

    Cactus flowers

Mrs and I like cacti but they wouldn't survive a Scottrish winter outside, so she keeps little ones in pots all over the house. Here's a couple window sills I just snapped:

    Fuel Recommendation by Google AI

AI is just trawling the net, albeit faster than you or I could, and presumaby summarising what it finds on loads and loads of What's the best fuel? threads. So I doubt AI would uncover any great new insights if you asked What's the best oil for my XYZ?

Waking up dad's TX650 in Colorado

When the bore is not too bad, you can clean it up with solvol - other metal polishes are available - and if that's not enough move on to more aggressive methods.

    Oil grade

Somebody once tried to explain it to me why, apparently you need different polymers to resist the averaged-out loads across a plain bearing than the much higher loadings on small surface areas that you have in rollers and balls. Or sommat. But any oil sure is 100% better than none.

    Oil grade

I'd agree, and whatever new oil you put within reason will be much better than nothing and better than old or oil of unknown provenance & age but generally we tend to do a bit better than that and there's so much choice on the shelves - tend to put Putoline V-twin oil in Miss November thinking...

    Kawasaki W800

OE on the Dub was Dunlop 'Roadmasters' which didn't live up to the reputation of the old-time TT100s in handling and their only good trait was they wore out fast. Fitted Avon RRs which were a big improvement over the Dunlops. Much more secure, better cornering, and even lasted significantly...

Yeah, I like a tradional headlamp too. Polly with her new boots on, back when I fitted Kenda both ends. Since gone back to Avon RoadRiders . . .

    WTF pictures

Yer alright, Jim, it's still his birthday for another five hours. But what a man! I remember on his birthday years ago, possibly his 89th, they ran an extended documentary in which Sir David was interviewed by a great fan, a certain Barack Obama, from the Whitehouse. A very respectful and...

    Seat latch XS650B

The one on mine was a faff. and a fiddle. IIRC the problem was like yours the latch didn't go deep enough - looking at where it went, and again this is a distant memory, it was landing on a ledge so not going to the bottom of the well as it were? I fiddled with the latch, bent it inwards towards...

    1981 XS650 project - none running

Looks like you're off to a good start. Electrics sorted, these are good strong bikes - enjoy!

    Where to start

Hi @DavidSmith welcome to the forum. A big factor is your own level of experience, from what you've done changing oil filter etc, you obviously know you way around bikes? As the others have said, your bike likely has charging problems so it helps if you are able to check electrical systems. And...

    WTF pictures

.[/USER] Should always be sceptical of pairs of graphs that correlate. There was a famous set of parallel lines of, racking what passes for brain here, wuz it rate of annualized steel production in the USA and birth rate in Germany? Sommat like that, anyhoo there was statistical correlation but...

    Interesting motorcycles, not XS650

Yamaha went rhough a phase of building world-beating new ideas but they never quite hit the mark with the consumer - the triples, the V-twins like this, the TDM slopey twins. By all accounts the TDMs were great bikes but for some reason not many sold?

    ETHANOL FREE FUEL?

There will be concern. I'm concerned about the gap between what the politicos say and what is practical. Sometimes hear stupid remarks on the radio where they'll come out with things like petrol cars are to be banned by 2030 when what they mean is quite different, Then they'll say we need to...

    WTF pictures

Scotts have always been a minority interest, you come across these water-cooled 2-stroke twins with their forward-leaning cyclinders in m/c museums and when I was younger I'd chat with old blokes who'd ridden one. They'd say, 'Aye, my brother had a Scott Flying Squirrel - now that really was a...
