    Interesting motorcycles, not XS650

They're one of those bikes that doesn't do anything really well, they just do everything all the time. Powerful, but heavy. Yamahas' second foray into 4 strokes was the XT500, made popular by Paris Dakar success. The 78/79 SR500 (2J2) had the same motor, converted to electronic ign and 12V...

Earlier version. They have a good reputation in europe with over 300 sold over 10 years. I'm not personally aware of any problems.

    Modern frame for an XS650SE

My memories didn't survive the digital crossover but try googling SR650. There are issues with frame flex, space for an air filter, the SR rear wheel wont take a small enough sprocket and swingarm needs to be wider. Not insurmountable but a double cradle Norton frame is bigger. Maybe call it...

    Upgrade ignition?

I set a couple of bikes up with these. Very simple to set up, programmable and reliable. I liked them so much I bought 5 for my own spare parts shelves and have installed in 2 of my bikes. Made by an XS specialist for his own bike they're not always available. He also makes good starter wheels...

    Modern frame for an XS650SE

The frame, deliberately chosen for it's lightness and double cradle (for a single carb) was used for racing. Headstock issue was known and rectified. No space for a top engine mount. Was very quick. Oil tank per se is a tube, isn't sheetmetal but the bracing is.

    Modern frame for an XS650SE

I have seen an XS650 motor in an SR500 frame with a single carb. Tight, but everything was accessible. I'm not so sure about the headstock though. They don't take a sidecar very well.

    Rear brake wear switch

Is that a dimple stamp at about 0100 on the shoe cam pivot? Hard to see with my old eyes. If so the cam needs to be rotated 180', they're a little asymmetric. Watch the beveled plate/washer under the cam inside the brake plate, it goes to the sensor side, and the wave washer, if it's still...

Anyone run with just a FL rotor?

And yet NVT, then Tony Hall, brought us the Ascot with Rickman/Metisse adding to the mix.

    Shifter fork wear confirmation

That's the detente, the star wheel/shift springs sit behind the clutch. These definitely channel female energy. The more intimate you get with them the better you know them. Understanding is a different ballgame.

Should we be afraid of Artificial Intelligence?

A relatively straight forward reallife application would be the legal system. Removal of appointed judges would definitely help remove political interference and multilayered 'justice' assuming quality of programming and data. Would uncover a literal ratsnest of legislation.

Future issues will involve Non-Human Intelligence and Mind to Machine interfaces.

Anyone run with just a FL rotor?

I wonder how many can say that. My first XS650 was a TXA in 74 when I left school. The family were all Triumph and Norton riders. I also rarely saw another then, as now. There are no XS's within 200 miles of me. I think I saw more in a 2 week Netherlands holiday in 2010 than during the whole of...

    Hello from Notts, UK

Good choice of prospective bike fb56. Simple motors built like a brick shit house. Any 77 on model will give you the stronger frame and 35mm forks. Your choice whether you like the soft chopper (Special) version or the standard version (difference is the rear shock position, tank size and...

Anyone run with just a FL rotor?

I had the same issue a while back. Removed european twin disc (lhs) from one bike and refitted it to a different bike, on the lhs. Results - 2 single disc systems - large reduction in unsprung weight - removal of hose splitter - major improvement with addition of braided hoses and smaller master...

Should we be afraid of Artificial Intelligence?

AI is only as good as the bias imposed by it's programming and the quality of the data it is fed. At best it will prove useful for yes/no on/off black/white decision processing with grey areas tempered by multiple decision grouping and feedback loops. The danger lies in the programming bias...
