What have you done to your XS today?

Rode out to a Classic Motorcycle day and entered my bike in the show. Its 2 awards per make and then there are a couple other categories for the pre 1960 bikes. Not many Yamahas. My XS650 placed 2nd On the way there, I could not downshift while coasting to a light about 10 miles from home. Took...

    Melnic's Triumph Spitfire

I"ve done a lot to the car since last posting. Happy to report the rear Diff is working out great. So much better. But now that I don't hear that Diff whine I found the Exhaust was just way too loud for my taste. I Pulled off the basically straight through muffs and put on 2 Toyota Corola...

    Just Ride.

First longer ride of spring last week. Ran great with the changes to the carb I did last week or so. Electronic Ignition I put in last fall is holding the timing and working great. Last night I pulled my volt meter/USB module on the bars and cleaned other things up. I"m entering the bike in...

    Fuel Recommendation by Google AI

Ethanol free 90 is obtainable near me but its far enough that I fill 5 gal gas cans. I use it exclusively in the '78 XS650 and a '79 Triumph Spitfire (car). Ethanol will harden rubber like fuel hoses, boots, petcock diaphragms. Plus any of that ethanol vapor gets to the diaphragms, who knows...

What have you done to your XS today?

Decided I wanted to fire up the XS. I felt that it was running lean last year and on longer rides in the heat it just seemed like it was feeling it. I put in one size up main jet and raised the needle back to the center slot (lowered the clip from 2nd from top to 3rd from top (center). Put the...

    Yet another Yamaha, TW200

Planning some trail rides this spring summer and fall with my riding group so I got this TW200 off of fakebook Yes, 200cc, wet weight of less than 300lbs During test ride I got it up to over 60mph on even pavement carrying my 200lbs of fat.

Any riding plans for 2026 ?

Great thread. For the XS650, it will likely continue to be an after work 1hr ride bike. I started my riding in my youth @ 14yrs old on dirt. I'm looking to acquire a Yamaha TW200 in the near future and do some BDR trips. Buddy has property in WV near a dealer who has a lot of routes well...

Should we be afraid of Artificial Intelligence?

I don't know about other states but our Electric bills here in MD have skyrocketed. Industry sources are blaming plant shutdowns for "carbon reduction efforts" but also speculators buying up electricity (or something like that) due to AI Data center demands. All the talk about Electric cars...

    Melnic's Triumph Spitfire

Well, if anyone ever heard the speedo scream of death on a motorcycle? This had a Rear differential scream of death. I originally thought it was a bad wheel bearing but it was the diff. I found a lower gear ratio rebuilt rear Diff and put it in. I got it in the day before it started snowing and...

What have you done to your XS today?

I like to start my XS with a turn and a half in on the idle stop screw, let it warm up and then turn it down some before leaving and then turn it down at the first light. Made a Grippy idle knob. If you want something like this see the post linked below Mine is different and I already had the...

    Vendor for Quality Ignition Points?

I replaced my stretched cam chain last year (or was it the year before?) and a new cam chain goes through an initial stretch it seems cause I had to tweek my points twice before I decided to put a Boyer Bransden ignition and not look back. Before that I had a Denso set of New old stock points...

Decided to try to learn to weld

This was on my bucket list for years to have basic welding skills and equipment. I started on my welding venture Fall of 2024. I started with a cheap stick welder and struggled with getting spark going, then switched to a combo unit that I use as a flux core wire fed unit. I read/viewed a lot...

    Let's See The XS's

Saw these 2 at the PA vintage dirt bike show/swap meet. There were several XS650 engines sitting on the floor in the swap meet.

    Melnic's Triumph Spitfire

2 steps forward and one back. This was over Xmas. I had not tested the keys for the door locks when I purchased the car, so when I tested the driver door, it got stuck in the lock position. Pealed back the door cover to find a pin missing from the latch. Took a little time in awkward positions...

How the fuck... do You kick start this bike?

I can imagine the state of each bike can be different. I found that if I used the electric start and it did not start right away, it required me to change my setup prior to kick starting. In my case, I turn up the idle screw 1 1/2 turns and then activate the choke. For kick starting I kick it...

    1971 Datsun 1200 B110 Project

I borrowed a 77? B210 from my sister one year, Was over heating one day in traffic and shut the AC down and ran the heater until I got home. Don't recall how I fixed it after that if there was a leak or what.

    Melnic's Triumph Spitfire

Simple armor all on the top brings it back just fine. Fuses on this beast is simple but in the engine compartment on the bulkhead. I just designed and 3D printed a cover for it cause the original one was missing.

    Melnic's Triumph Spitfire

TR models IMO are more classic looking (and better looking). At the end of the spitfire where mine is, IMO the classic original look faded quite a bit. yes, this is like driving a Go Cart, but when your in it, it does not feel as small as I look driving it. I parked next to an Acura RDX and...

Actually made something useful with my 3D printer.

OOO, I want this. I kept contemplating cause I turn mine up 1 to 1 1/2 turns when I start the bike then turn down some as I ride off then finally back to where it started after a few stops.
