Restore 90%done, but carbs are still bogging her down

Both cylinders are actually firing? Have the carbs been synced? Compression? Have you done timing chain and valve adjustment yet?

An update for you all or those diagnosing their own issues. the starting issue has been solved. It now starts without throttle, with the choke on, which is fantastic! Things I've done. Threw another rebuilt set of bs38's on, these have zero air leaks in the butterfly shaft, whereas the others...

Copper Gaskets for Banjo Fittings on Brake Lines

Yep they will work. It's what I've used on mine. Might be a good idea to sand down any inconsistencies on the caliper end though. I needed to, there was a bunch of buildup there.

Similar, but I've not kicked it yet. Twist the wrist about 10mm push button, she starts straight up. If I don't touch the throttle, on the first button push it tries to fire but can't quite catch.

So the new jets arrived, tried the #30 pilot on these '79 carbs and it didn't quite give enough to get the full range on the mixture screws, so have installed the 2nd level up #32.5. I can now wind the mixtures in to both a rough idle in/lean and also out/rich, which I'm pretty happy about. The...

    xs650b down under build thread

Hi guys, it's been a while! Have taken her for a few rides, geez these are fun bikes to ride. As expected, she's not running perfect, but is on the road nonetheless! I originally had a lean/rich issue which I kind of resolved by unsticking the float needles. (Turns out adjusting that tang on...

Back again with an update. A lot has been happening since the startup, it's amazing how much there is still to do at this point before taking it for it's first run. I was having issues with the throttle cable catching and hanging up due to a few internal bends that I could not straighten.(2-1...

Quick question on new repop fuel tank

I got mine from geoffsxs here in Australia. I think Mikesxs and heiden sell the same one. Well they look the same to me. They are repops of the tanks that use vacuum petcocks, so the bolt pattern is different than the older models. I believe the screws are set further apart. Edit: the size of...

Quick question on new repop fuel tank

Brilliant thanks mailman. Just as I suspected, but didn't want to screw it up in case that was some type of fibre washer tape to help with sealing. Might run a knife around the edge of it for a clean peel. Thanks again!

Quick question on new repop fuel tank

Hey fellas. Quick question. Bought a new repop tank a while ago and ready to fit peacocks to it. It seems to have sealing tape in that area, and it is painted over. Should I leave this and just break through it where the petcock pipes and screws go, or remove the whole thing, before fitting...

Well chaps, it started! Believe it or not I actually thought it would be a no-go. I attached a temporary fuel bottle hanging from a hook, made sure my valve settings, timing and initial mixture settings were in the ballpark of where they should be, and gave it a turn. After about two...

    xs650b down under build thread

Hello all, it's been a while but I have made a little progress, despite a 2 week vacation in hawaii in there somewhere. Wiring is very much mostly done, all lights are working, starter works, new mini gauges are fitted and wired up, all that is left is the speedo/tacho setup. Here's how I set...

Interesting.. can see how that pass button could come in handy, shame I don't have one on my LHS control! Another thing I've found with this wiring, is the long pathway of the L/B wire from the RHS switch. Seems you plug this into the L/B RHS harness, which then loops around to the LHS harness...

Working with the loom and electrics over the last week, and I've been baffled, amazed, intrigued, impressed, unimpressed, disappointed, and finally content for the most part. I'm armed with my wirestrippers, crimping tool, bullet connectors, multimeter, test light, and a decent amount of...

Hi all, I'm still here, just quietly progressing. As you can see the engine partly came out for a quick bit of colour, and then back in. (the aluminium looked great in photos, not so much in real life) I've also fitted the xscharge PMA and Clutch basket, hopefully will get the engine covers...
