I ordered this and just received it. It is too small for the holes in the carbs. Given the tip below about the hoses, do i really need to get the Tygon lines to make this work? If so..does anyone know the specific ID/OD I need?

So that just pushes in with the rubber gaskets? Interesting

So the floats are fine...no leaking. The needles also are clean and don't have adjustments on them. Any ideas on what to check? The leak is coming out of the plastic fuel delivery pipe into the carb. :-(

I'm still trying to get to the point where I can get this running. When reassembling and attempting to test, I started getting gas pouring out of the gas delivery tube to the left carb. I need to get it off and test the float for cracks and such.

Yeah...the float has never stuck. I tapped under and on sides of the bowl with a socket extension. If these damn things weren't so difficult to get off!!!! LOL

Well I spent time last night, and my main jets were severely restricted...not plugged, but restricted. I cleaned the pilot jets and the pathways through the carb body themselves. I was hopeful when I reinstalled, but now I have a gas leak coming from the problematic carb. Will spend more time...

Argh…I must be going insane. I must have had the wires mixed up. Left side is not firing regardless of coil wire. Damnit.

I just switched my plugs right <--> left...now left side fires, right doesn't. Seems a coil/wire/cap issue.

Just using my eyeballs, I see that I have a missing bolt on my carb boot. Tried to out another in and it seems to have been stripped. I got another bolt in got it tight. Still cold muffler.

It’s definitely the right side that is working and left is not. Switched spark plugs and no difference. I’ll have to dig in now on the why….

My footer has the info on the jet sizing. 1981 XS650 Special H, Uni-Foam Filters, Stock BS34 carbs (45 pilots, 137.5 mains), Heiden Performance oil cooler/filter, 2nd oversize piston rings, PAMCO ignition Both pipes are hot as shit LOL, so I think the cylinders are good. I take that back...

I reread my post and in case I wasn't clear...I really was looking to take this somewhere to someone that knows more about what they are doing. I do ecommerce for a living and spend most of my days on a keyboard. I can fix stuff, but am definitely not a mechanic. Here is my bike running. Starts...

Good morning, hope this finds y'all well! It's been a hot minute since I've been out on the site! I completed a build of a 1981 xs650, and I think I did well, but I could use some help in getting it over the finish line. I think a general lookover, carb tuning, etc. is warranted, but I can't...

Carb Jetting :: BS34s :: 1981 xs special :: short pipes + UNI foam filters

Thanks to all for the help getting me back up to speed. The bike is running well with the ability to idle cleanly.

Carb Jetting :: BS34s :: 1981 xs special :: short pipes + UNI foam filters

UPDATE: My 15 year old son learned how to do the oil change, sump filter change, valve adjustments and clean the carbs. Since the jets were shot, I replaced with all new... 135 air jet (stock xs650 special), 137.5 main and the 45 to the pilot. It started perfectly and I actually got a clean idle...

Carb Jetting :: BS34s :: 1981 xs special :: short pipes + UNI foam filters

I am in the process of cleaning the carbs now @jpdevol ... they were really bad. I was just surprised last night that there are 2 main jets in the diagram and that I missed it. I did change the large round main jet (prior to this) to 137.5 and the pilot jet to 45. I just wanted to make sure I...

Carb Jetting :: BS34s :: 1981 xs special :: short pipes + UNI foam filters

Not sure why/how I've missed this... there are 2 main jets on the BS34s? There is a main jet on the air filter side of the carb that has a stock 135 and a float bowl main jet that has a stock 132.5!? So if I originally used a 137.5 main on the float bowl main, but never changed the main on the...
