    Any vintage car guys here?

Being a total gearhead, I could force myself to drive any of those. I actually had a '69 Nova SS but it was a 99% stock 350/Turbo 350, just added headers and a Holley 650 and matching manifold. Tore the trans out of it screwing around and was too broke to fix it. Then I got...

    Any vintage car guys here?

Yeah, better gas mileage, better starting, longer lasting, better crash-worthiness...who needs all that? :poke: I will say the styling has become universal - if you've seen one, you've seen 'em all. Only way to tell the difference is the badge on the grille. As nostalgic as I am for - say -...

    A (too) loud exhaust rant

Don't even get me started... The numbers of that particular sort of asshat have dwindled since the Navy Base (and it's plethora of kids with $2000 stereos in $200 cars) closed, but I still get one now and then. There's one moron on a bagger with a really loud stereo. I think both saddlebags...

    A (too) loud exhaust rant

Right there with ya! Here in East Overshoe, it applies to trucks as well. The intersection 25 yards from my kitchen window goes to a busy harbor and young lobstermen pull away from that stop sign with their foot on the floor. A couple of them literally rattle my windows. :banghead:

    WTF pictures

In the 70's we used "trichlor" to clean 1" tape recorder heads. I think it was Trichlorotrifluoroethylene vs. the Evil Stuff, but it got phased out as well. Many, MANY days of getting it on bare skin. Amazed I don't have cancer of everything by now...

    Stupid is as stupid does.

Yes. Yes we can. And chatting with a lady about my age while waiting in line and checking out the eye candy at the same time makes for good camoflauge. Ahem...so I hear...

All I'll say about that is I don't remember girls looking like that when I was in High School. Or dressing like that...:geek:

    Stupid is as stupid does.

I was on a road trip delivering a broken Zero Turn to the dealer for repair (paid trucking run) On the way back I stopped at one of the three Dunkin' Donuts shops in town. Because convenience, I stopped at the one across the street from the biggest High School in Hancock County. Just as...

Is it my turn? Anything to do with lathes, mills and other shop tools

Nice work, Jim! I keep my tools clean and mechanically sound (where applicable) but spending that much time and effort on something I'm literally going to beat with a hammer sort of eludes me. But then, a LOT of stuff eludes me, just ask Mrs. Downeaster...

    Hey all!

Welcome aboard! Yes, wiring in a small battery would replace the capacitor, given two conditions: 1. You're not trying to run an electric start, and; 2. The charging system is working and keeping the battery charged.

I think the first step would be a close-up of the rotor. It may not need replacing at all unless you're primarily interested in aesthetics.

    Reaching out for reassurance

Probably. Three reasons: 1. Neutral is a "half click" above 1st and can be finicky to find without the motor running. 2. It may be that your "shift star" needs to be adjusted/aligned with the linkage. Is it finding all the gears and clicking in positively? 3. It may be necessary to hold...
