Is it my turn? Anything to do with lathes, mills and other shop tools

I know what that is and I’ve used them!

"Restored" what does that mean to you

When it comes to the XS650, I love resto mods. The August calendar bike is a good example. If it looks like then, and works better, I’m good with that.

    That was close!

The same event happened to me several weeks ago. We lingered too long at dinner in Oxford, MS. Mrs & I got darked on. We’re going north on MS 7 and I signal a left turn onto MS 319. As I initiated my turn the asshole in the SUV behind us passed on the left! There’s nothing wrong with my turn...

"Restored" what does that mean to you

Yes, a restoration means it is as it was when it was new.

    Welded Frame, Bike wont start.

The charging rotor. What is the resistance between the copper rings? It should be about 5 ohms. If it's shorted, the battery will go dead in a heartbeat, and before it does, it's going to run like shit.

    2023 XS650 Calendar - Nominations

Who is it that has the blue bike with the 1975 decal set? I think it's a '77. It was passed onto son. I want to nominate it, but I can't find it right now.

    Fork bushing wear?

I don't think that's too far-fetched. The fork oil should be changed routinely. Some of these bikes never had the oil changed. The dirtier the oil, the more wear on the aluminum. That would be my suspicion as well.

    Gasoline

    Also humble.

    Gasoline

My bike is stock. It runs on 87 ethanol free. I get no knock or ping. I give priority to E0. When I lived in Georgia, most E0 was 91 and that's what I used.

    Painting Tins. No really...

I concur. My pieces are still homeless, but I’ll get there.

    SR 500

AFAIK, Yamaha still makes them! It’s now an SR400, but it’s the same. I expect OEM parts are plentiful.

Need visual reference to repair 1981 seat latch.

I apologize for the late response. The rear indicator has a shorter threaded portion than the front. I hope the pictures help. I can’t take it apart right now. My ‘81 bike is in Atlanta, but I’m fairly certain it’s identical to the ‘83.

    Welded Frame, Bike wont start.

I have to jump off for now. I'll try to check back later this afternoon. I do have a stock '83 in the garage with the sidestand and clutch switches deactivated.
