Oh, Lordy...I've become one of THEM

Fairly sure I won't be listening to music on the bike. Don't need anything distracting me from the task at hand.

    Uh oh...

I'd forgotten about this thread. Other irons, local bureaucracy, and "shit happens" have long delayed the project but he assures me it's still on the table. Last I spoke with him he was hoping for an early Spring 2024 opening, but I haven't seen much in the way of activity over there.

True. Sometimes I'm stubborn enough not to do it until after I throw stuff and break shit...

Oh, Lordy...I've become one of THEM

I looked today and verified line-of-sight and I'm thinking I'll mount the receiver outside the building and run at CAT5 to the laptop. Won't really know until I get the hardware and (gasp!!!!) read the instructions.

Oh, Lordy...I've become one of THEM

My late friend's widow gave me his laptop as she has no use for two. 5-6 year old Acer running Win7, but perfectly adequate for surfing, videos and viewing PDF docs. Just need to wait for my bridge hardware to come in and get that set up. It's networked to my printers. It's on an old CRT-TV...

    Interesting motorcycles, not XS650

Didn't know you were on YTMag, @kshansen. I'm "Fawteen" over there, don't hang on the Farmall board but I'm around on Tales, Tools and Tractors boards.

    Interesting motorcycles, not XS650

As a mechanical exercise, interesting. From a practical usefulness standpoint, not so much.

    New 1976 Yamaha XS500

As long as the leads are connected via a fuse, I wouldn't worry about it for now. Clean and gap the points and then pull a plug, ground it to the bike, crank it and see if you have spark.

    New 1976 Yamaha XS500

There are no leads going to it, so no, there doesn't need to be a fuse there. Do you know what type of ignition it has? Points? TCI (Transistor)? If points, they could be corroded or not gapped correctly. If TCI, it could be a bad module or corroded connections. What condition are the plug...

    Official CX Refurb Thread

Oil filter and cover reinstalled, clutch cover removed for cleaning. Of course, the clutch cover gasket was the original and disintegrated when I popped the cover off, so that's on order. Radiator trim cleaned up, rust treated, painted and reinstalled. Gas tank checked out, cleaned up, some...

Oh, Lordy...I've become one of THEM

Oh, Lordy...I've become one of THEM

I have mild to middlin' tinnitus too (Thanks, Uncle Sam...) but I've had it so long I don't even notice it until I think about it. Thinking seriously about picking up a wireless repeater and shooting WIFI down to the shop. A cheap laptop would be nice for perusing PDF manuals and looking...

Oh, Lordy...I've become one of THEM

Oh yeah, it will get shut off for some operations. Already has, in fact. So far, the playlists, based on the "three favorite bands" I selected has been pretty good. Skipped over a few but not bad.

Oh, Lordy...I've become one of THEM

Messaged Grandson asking about current music technology. Been thinking for a while that some tunes in the shop would be nice. Never have had much luck with CD players in that environment, especially with the noise and what remains of my hearing. He immediately recommended Spotify, which...

    Official CX Refurb Thread

Drained and refilled the drive hub on the rear wheel, refilled the radiator with 50/50 Prestone, lubed the throttle and clutch cables and started cleaning up the trim bits for the radiator shroud. The painted steel inner trim is solid but a lot of surface rust. Tried a trick I saw on Brick...

    Segway scooters.

At which point my sanitary facilities will involve a bucket and the back yard. Looking to buy a new TV. Try to buy a "Smart" TV without voice remote and Siri/Alexa built in. There will NOT be an Alexa in my house. I'll go back to reading all Winter first. And there will NEVER be an Apple...

I just acted my age, and bought a sensible motorcycle...

Wait...what? Acting your age? Is that a thing? Not on MY planet! :lmao::laugh: Seriously tho, it's hard to go wrong with pretty much any Honda. I've seen a couple around here, they're not a bad looking bike, just a little uninspiring for those of use with a 16 year old throttle hand.
