Very lovely! What speedo & tacho are used? That's what I'm looking for for my bike.

    Interesting motorcycles, not XS650

I had one of these for a couple of years. Defo a man's clutch even though it was hydraulic, but scary brakes I had to upgrade. And a terrible ignition system, that had to go too !

    XS650 Top End Buildup

Hi Steve, Yambits sell both. The DID link has solid pins and the Morse one hollow. They are out of stock of the Morse chain right now though. Can't speak for Heiden's stock but they are really good people and I've had lots of bit from them over the last few years. I'll be doing a top end...

    Let's See The XS's

Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting @XsTony and his mate Mark for a chat and coffee in Devizes. Tony's rephased Ascot 840 is giving some vibration problems with the isolastic setup, which was really designed for a 360's vibes. Mark's bike is the lightweight 750, the other is of course...

How To: Remove the Camshaft Rocker Arms

Thanks, but for all four an M6 x 1 bolt doesn't even begin to start. I've been reluctant to apply any force as I really don't want to bugger things up. I have some M6 x 0.75 x 50mm bolts coming from China (naturally ...) and if they won't work either, then I'll do as you suggest and apply a...

How To: Remove the Camshaft Rocker Arms

Yes, the rocker arm shaft which we call the rocker spindle here in the UK. Guess I'll have to buy some M6 x 0.75 bolts and try my luck - the spindle end is so far recessed I can't get a thread gauge in there. Just as well I'm in no rush for this job!

How To: Remove the Camshaft Rocker Arms

Applying a good dose of heat then a firm tap with a dead-blow hammer worked for me. But now a different problem - what's the thread pitch for the rocker spindle? Everything I read says 'M6' but none of my 1mm pitch 'normal' M6 bolts will screw in. Did this change with late model ones? The...

And for my next trick ....

Thanks fellas. I just had another thought re paint removal - the guy I go to for powdercoating uses some chemical bath for paint removal - he can also put bigger things like bike frames in it and as his speciality is restoring mag wheels (he used to work for Dymag) he understands materials, so...

And for my next trick ....

Sorry if this rambles a but but I'm sat here in Covid's tight embrace and feel, quite frankly, shitty. So bear with ....... The next phase of my 'continual improvement' plan has begun! I decided that I'd like a modest uplift in ooomph in the 3k - 6k range (or 3-5 if I have to narrow it a...

    UK PRICING MADNESS XS650

I bought my XS from Summerbud back in 2017. His business has developed somewhat since then, but I guess he still imports bikes from the US to sell on over here.

What have you done to your XS today?

Keep searching Fleabay Adam, they come up from time to time at much less money than that. Like maybe 50 quid. As for me, today I balanced the carbs and wish I'd done this a long time ago. Soooooo much smoother, and got rid of the tickover stumbling on the right side. I'm happy :)

    Just Ride.

First day of summer? Today is the summer solstice, midsummer's day. Three of us rode to various bits of Wales, 279 miles for me door to door. Here's somewhere nice - mine is the middle bike.

    Miss November XS2 tribute

The key symptom seems to be the engine dying after closing the throttle. It's got me baffled. I was wondering if the slides were sticking down, but if they were I guess the motor would still tick over. It's all very strange. One of those 'checking the obvious' things - do you fuel filters and...

    Quelle Horreur!! PO butchery ...

With a single-side swinging arm, the drive pins on the hub need to locate into the holes in the wheel. They didn't, so the pins were in the voids. Under acceleration+deceleration the drive and wheel slipped against each other, banging back and forth. It was torqued correctly just not fitted...

    SR500 Minton mods

Yes, I know I should use straight rate springs but I'm trying to keep the cost down by using what I've already got as much as possible. The Hagons are progressive, as are the XS and SR ones so I figure that while whatever I can put together won't be ideal, it should at least be an improvement...

What have you done to your XS today?

A friend who lives near Bath got his TCI box refurbished. I'll find out who did it for him, and I remember the price was very sensible. I'll PM you.

    SR500 Minton mods

Chaps, I'm returning to this as I had to break the forks down to replace leaking seals and ended up also replacing one upper bush and these ruined stanchions While I had it all in bits I thought I'd make a further improvement - the Hagon progressive springs + 10W oil improved the spriinging no...

    Quelle Horreur!! PO butchery ...

Not really a PO thing this time, but more a professional's incompetence. On a recent trip to Scotland, one of us picked up a rear puncture on his 2016 Multistrada from a lump of glass. This did the tyre no favours at all, so he decided to get it replaced and he had a relative who lives near...
