    Chicken Lips ! Scored !

Unless the thief is carrying some wire cutters in his back pocket, my stainless wire tether will likely frustrate his grab-n-go scheme to such a degree that he will give up yanking and take off. .

    First start after rebuild

From what your report, it seems to me that the pieces are leftovers from the old guide. BTW, you might see the fine sparkles for a number of oil changes; I wouldn't worry about them. .

    Removing chain guard question

The seller doesn't provide any info on the chain other than it is made of steel. Also has a lot of negative and concerning feedback comments in the past month, and the feedback wasn't responded to. I'd look elsewhere. .

Here is a thread regarding making your own sump gasket. https://www.xs650.com/threads/making-a-template-for-oil-change-gasket.62972/ I recommend that you study the process of removing and replacing the sump cover before launching into it. There are a ton of threads about this. Just put "sump...

Prying might damage it. Perhaps tap on it lightly with a polyurethane or rubber hammer. The paper gaskets behind the cover can often be reused, but if needed you can get them cheap with free shipping on EBay. The sump filter gasket is also available on Ebay. Some guys carve them out of a...

The 2 oil filters on your bike are actually just oil screens which can be cleaned and reused if they are not torn, but the one at the bottom can be repaired. Are yours intact? (picture?) .

"Sawzall, intermediate pipe, reducers, hightemp RTV, clamps" True, you can cut the system up and utilize the pieces. Here is a thread on that: https://www.xs650.com/threads/cutting-stock-exhaust.48950/ I should have said, "It doesn't come apart without a whole lot of work" .

Another, easier (IMHO) method of freeing the clutch plates is the Fred Flintstone method: sit on the bike, hands on the handlebars. Get it into second gear gently. Pull in the clutch (engine is off) and sit on the seat, pushing the bike forwards and backwards while in gear. Eventually, the...
