    Breather plate left out.

I've just put a new head on my xs and found I haven't put this bit (breather plate) in the lower part. Do I need to take it off again or is it OK without it? He asks hopefully... Old Head in pics for part location.

Head model ID by stamped numbers

"Early heads have some differences that cant be matched to later motor. XS1 and 1B's are the odd ones out I think" This is why I'm trying to find out if the stamped numbers on the heads relate to what model bike they come from.

Head model ID by stamped numbers

The 2 piece head has two matching numbers as I think that they are line bored as a pair. We are trying to ID some heads and I guess you can tell what model heads come from by what numbers are stamped upon them. Mainly trying to ID replacement 1972 heads for engine number s650 129 120. Greg

The decompressor has been deleted on my 72. Eng#s650 129 120 which according to the lists I have make it a 72. Looks like a late number though. XS2 306 S650-100101 1972 Brilliant Red

Cracked head, replace 72 with 75 head?

Cheers Griz, I will look at getting the 72 head stitched first just looking at options at the moment. And just to check what was said above that the engine has to come out to remove the head? Also, why should I "Move the left cylinder exhaust rocker and valve cover from the old head to the 75...

Cracked head, replace 72 with 75 head?

The lock nut on my left exhaust valve adjuster has come off, gone under the cam and cracked the head below the cam... Bugger @#$% I have been doing this for years and my old Ducati has the same sort of adjuster and never had a problem with either before over decades of ownership. I have a couple...

Are all center stands created equal? 1975B.

I got the grinder out and removed under 1mm from both the stand and where it rests on the frame and it is now a LOT better. I could have gone a little more but I will see how it settles in first.

I haven't even mentioned yet how both legs also seem to come down on a different angle. Look at my original pic, I thought I was imagining it at first. Sigh...

    Boyer Bransden air gap

I contacted Boyer and asked them about air gaps and if they knew how I could straighten their warped stator plate. My question and their answer is below. Nothing about straightening the plate, just buy another. PS I have no float in the shaft and 1mm +- .5mm clearance sounds like it may be a...

Are all center stands created equal? 1975B.

Looks like the grinder is coming out. So I have heard back from XS650 Direct which is where I bought this stand. BTW, I didn't say they were different on different models, they did. Their reply is below. "Hi Greg, I have looked into this for over an hour now and can't figure this out. It looks...

Are all center stands created equal? 1975B.

So Today I had a good look and the front of the stand is just coming into contact at the proper spot on both sides, but only just, right at the top and to the outside of the face, see attached pic. No play in the bolts and going by bosco659's comment above it looks like I'm not the only one with...

Are all center stands created equal? 1975B.

I bought these bolts from XS650 Direct to go with the stand and have loosened them etc, nice snug fit. I am going to get it off and have a good look.

As I said above mate. I don't recon it's even touching the frame. "I put a feeler gauge between the stand and the frame and there is a small gap, I would have thought it would be up hard on the rectangular stops welded into the frame. But even it there was no gap the stand would still be very...

Are all center stands created equal? 1975B.

I bought a new center stand & bolts for my 1975 B model, frame #447 123 750 from XS650 Direct and have problems with the stand being very vertical and the bike can rock forward off it. I contacted them and they pointed out it states on the ad - I do not remember why but we do have listed in...

Spark plugs, what kind. The new oil thread.

I have been running B8ES NGK plugs in my 1975 B but I now have a 1972 engine in it and while looking to see if I needed different plugs noticed people are running BP7ES plugs in a lot of models. My Haynes manual say's that is only for the C model. Are people running the Projector type to get a...

    Boyer Bransden air gap

I've just about had a gut full of this Boyer crap, I have fitted Sachse systems to both points and Bosch ignition Ducati's with great results in the past. This thing has already eaten the blue switching box while I was trying to do a compression test and grounding the plugs failed and now the...
