    Vintage Moto Weekend Mid-Ohio 2013

Any of my fellow XSers gonna be at AMA vintage weekend at the mid-Ohio course in July? We've got a great group of yamaha owners, some two strokes plus my XS, and we party pretty good and cook a ton of food. Leave your details if you want a free beer-- all that's required is you stop by and talk...

    The problem with anodized handlebars

I've been running kick only because I've been too lazy to ground the starter button. My bars are painted-- I bared the area where the switch clamps to the bar, but where else should I sand away paint to ensure a good ground? I'm getting tired of kicking..... ;)

    1st Bike! XS650?

my first bike was a $600 KZ440 that ran like the dickens but was ugly as sin (yes, someone painted it with LATEX HOUSE PAINT). I say get whatever you can get cheapest that still runs and is safe. I literally rode the piss out of that thing (from VA to NJ and back) and then when it finally needed...

    Neutral Light Quirk

NEVERMIND. I wired it the wrong way. Fixed it. In other news, the world is apparently round.

    Neutral Light Quirk

Recently opened up the rat's nest to install new gauges, and have almost solved all of my electrical snafus. One that has me perplexed: Got rid of all the other meter lights. Wired up the light blue and the brown to the wires on the new LED that will act as neutral lamp. (if it matters, red...

    mini gauges

I saw a set up with the LGC bracket where they used two clamps on the underside of the plate (around each gauge body)... the round type, like a t-bolt you would use in plumbing I guess? It looked just OKAY, I'm sure it was subject to vibration, etc, and not sure how it weathered. From the top...

    Ignition Swap to Toggle Switch

yes, you're right, I just can't count. ;) So, I got a switch and it has Power, ACC, and Ground. Red on positive I got, but now about this "acc"... it has what looks like a headlight image on it. Should I ignore it and put all the wires to the ground side or.... ? As you can tell, I'm new at...

    Ignition Swap to Toggle Switch

Okay, I've read a few posts on this and SOMEHOW I STILL cannot fathom how to make this work. All I want to do is-- OFF: bike is off. ON: Bike does everything the second position (run) on the standard ignition does. I dont care about "park" position because who the hell uses that anyway? FOR...

    mini gauges

hey t3chnic, what year XS did you bolt up that Dime City smaller bracket to? The spacing is wrong for my stock '77 and I'm SALTY as hell about it. I can return it but... WAITING SUCKSSS Gauges look good though. Rubber washers all around to keep them from vibrating to bits?

    Anybody in Northern VA/DC area?

Spring is here and I've got work to do on the bike and beers to drink. Craigslist Killers need not apply-- I have a glock and I know how to use it. (mostly joking... mostly) I live in Northern Virginia just outside of DC but would be down for a meetup with any fellow XS650 enthusiasts...

    Why?

My first foray into the "random chatter" area of the forum. Interesting opinions, all. I like you guys too much to stick to just tech advice. ;) To the first topic of discussion, I can say this. When you're new to this stuff, you want help but you also come in filled with "ideas" about certain...

    neutral light install

i'm probably going to put my neutral light (got a smallish LED) into the headlight bucket. any tips for drilling that hole? I'm nervous because I'm new at this and the bucket is round, so won't that affect how the light bolts in? Stupid, I know.

    Side cover latch assembly.

So the entire thing came assembled as one piece (except the rubber)-- I can take them apart and the spring belongs further inside the knob? It has a notched washer thing that stops it at the knob, then a second washer near the pin. I'm sorry I'm so dense on this issue, for some reason I'm not...

    Side cover latch assembly.

Yep, they do a lot of blustering and create absolutely nothing. It's our main export: air. I'll hit the springs tonight, should be easy enough. I really was born in the wrong era, I wish a modern bike appealed to me but they just don't. At all. I'd love to have a brand new '76 500 (and I'd love...

    Free - With a Catch

I sold my '82 KZ440 and forgot to give the guy the extra gasket set I had lying around. I know it's not for the XS but hey if someone needs it. It's this one: from z1 fits some other years and whatever, see the description. I think i can afford shipping; its nearly lighter than air. ;)

    Side cover latch assembly.

I dont have a pic handy, but mine was WAY too long. It had almost no play in it once assembled. I'm not the strongest 120 lb. gal in the neighborhood, but I am a cop so I'm pretty sure my trigger finger still has some pull left. AND NO DICE on that thing. Thanks, retiredgent, I'll be cutting it...
