Should I give up riding?? ,lol

When you have the wheel off, check to make sure the inside spacer is there. Somebody may have replaced the bearings and not reinstalled it. Picture from 5twins

Blue and yellow should run back to the tail light, the black wire with the red on it, l'm thinking is the positive battery connection. Are you looking at the wiring diagram for the '78 SE? If I have time today l'll take some pics of mine and post them.

    First chopper build... HELP!

I know your ultimate goal is to go hardtail, but if l read correctly, you seem to have the parts to a make a complete ridable bike. Another option would be to assemble the pieces, make sure the engine and carbs work properly, enjoy it this summer, and then do your mods over the winter.

    Rear hub

Thinking it may be from an 81(?) XS 400. Saw your other post asking the same question, ratranger suggested a cb750, looking at your pictures more carefully and looking on eBay, Honda cb is a better guess. The 750 uses a 20mm axle, the 500 looks like it uses a smaller diameter axle.

    Morris magneto

For the amount of money you would spend on the magneto, you might want to look at other alternatives, specifically the Powerdynamo, out of Germany l think, and one from a company called Electrex World, out of the UK. Both systems are combination alternator and ignition, crankshaft mounted, not...

    conundrum

Hi Bob, That's the same link I sent in my first post. It's the Clymers manual that gives the best description on how to set the points up and do the static timing. Something l read, every expert started out as a beginner.

    conundrum

I apologize on that link, l thought it was the PDF for the Clymers manual. When l opened it on my tablet a copy of my manual opened up. I looked to see if I could find a link to a download, but no luck. Perhaps your local library has a copy or you can pick one up off of Amazon or eBay.

    Cam Timing Woes... Maybe?

Just throwing out as a question, l don't know the answer, could a 447 cam chain work on a 256 engine? If it could then maybe you were sent the wrong replacement.

    conundrum

As far as the leaking gas, does it leak when you have the petcock turned to off? Is it coming through the air filters? Did it leak all the time, or just when the engine was running?
