    Point Covers

Any stock one will fit, not sure about the aftermarket custom ones. Some of them aren't as deep and don't have as much room inside.

    Brake caliper question

Yes, cleaning that seal groove out is one of the most important steps during a caliper overhaul. Built-up crud in that groove is what usually causes the brake issues in the first place (sticking piston). Also make sure the bleed nipple is open when you try to install the piston so pressure can...

80 xs650 forks wont fully lower.

You should NEVER clamp a fork lower in a vice, it's too easy to pinch it oval shaped and ruin it. You say the "new" one you got did compress fully but now it doesn't? Is this after clamping it in your vice? If it is then you may have ruined it too. Only clamp the lower at the bottom where the...

    New Machine unfamiliar with

Yes, you are missing the lower side covers. They have a couple of pegs on them that snap into those grommets, and a tab on the bottom that fits into that slot on top of the "beauty" plate that goes behind the footpeg mount ..... You also need to make sure the clutch cable is well oiled. Even...

    Fork rebuild questions.

Well actually, no, your original '77 springs aren't sacked, they differed in length from the '78 and newer springs ..... They also should have a factory preload spacer. If they didn't, that would explain why they seem so soft .....

..... except that requires breaking the chain, harder and much messier than just pulling a muffler, in my opinion anyway.

I do, but they are the N.L.A. MAC headpipes. They swept up on the ends at what I think was the perfect angle, high enough to clear the axle but low enough to clear my saddle bags. I'd like to try to bend the ends of those new headpipes up a little and match that.

    Fork rebuild questions.

It seems Yamaha put a little more time and effort into making the first year 35mm fork damper rods a bit nicer. They polished them up more than the later ones and beveled the oil holes. An engineer buddy of mine told me beveled holes flow more and better. So now, I incorporate these things into...

    Fork rebuild questions.

Not real critical I guess. The forks may top out occasionally on the road and every time you put the bike on the centerstand. You'll get a little "clunk" if and when it happens.

Unfortunately no they won't. The headpipes on my '78 are the MAC brand and what MikesXS used to sell before they had their own made up. The new pipes don't angle up as much, something I would like to "fix", lol. On the '78, the mufflers run just above the rear axle so you can remove it without...

    Fork rebuild questions.

You're going to find the '77 damper rods differ slightly from the '78 and newer ones, mainly at the top. The holes are the same so you do the same Minton Mod drilling. However, you're going to need a different way of holding the damper rod from spinning while you remove and install the retaining...

    Fork rebuild questions.

I've never added a preload spacer to the aftermarket progressive springs, didn't need to. I think they're a little stiffer than the originals.

The Euro bar bend is my favorite and I put it on all my bikes. Because of the way the ends droop down slightly, I think these are about the most comfortable bars on the planet, lol. Those drooped down ends turn your wrists to a more natural angle compared to bars that stick straight out. As...

    Resurfacing your old brake Discs

Drilling the holes did, not sure about the resurfacing. But I would think that having a fresh, textured surface for new pads to bed in on should. Or if I re-use old pads, I lightly bead blast them and that cleans them up nicely, I'd say making them almost like new again.

    Royal Enfield Interceptor 2019

Yes, I heard the fuel system sort of "self-tunes" itself for minor mods. That's pretty cool. Are the bends that angle the mufflers out so much in the ends of the headpipes or part of the mufflers?

    Grease vs antisieze

Well, the old BMW mechanic's "blend" was moly grease mixed with anti-seize. I have a jar I made up that I've been using for years.

    Royal Enfield Interceptor 2019

I might swap in the new relay, to an important circuit like the "Ignition", and carry the old one as the spare. It would be interesting to test a new one side by side with the grease-filled ones to see if one craps out before the other. I meant to ask - was the air filter upgraded to the...

    Grease vs antisieze

I think with that much movement, I'd go with grease. I only use anti-seize on non-moving parts (threads or the bolts themselves), or a part that moves very little. As an example, I put it on my cush drive rear hub, on the sleeve it moves on. But that only rotates maybe a quarter inch or so ...

    Just introducing myself.

The cut-out in a Special chain guard may not align with the more upright Standard shock mounting position. It's farther forward to align with the more laid down Special shock mounting angle. I encountered sort of the opposite problem when fitting a TX750 chain guard (Standard style) on my...
