MacMcMacmac: Thank you, I was thinking it was 1.25mm but wanted to double-check!

    Rear Shock Mount Threads: Pitch?

Hi Guys, I'm installing some new rear shocks, and I realized one of the rear top shock mounts has been stripped. I had to cut off the acorn nut. I'm hoping I can re-thread with a tap and die. Does anyone know the pitch? I just want to double-check with y'all before I go at it.

    BRAT'S WHAT is your deal????

This is also what I think. Either this, or more of a bobber look with a dropped seat, like westonboege's above. Here's a link to the bikes of Go Takamine of Bratstyle Japan, which is where the term originated: http://bratstyle.com/

    BRAT'S WHAT is your deal????

Brat build  Seriously, the definition of "brat style" seems to be expanding beyond recognition. For instance, we recently featured this R100 by Switzerland's The Bike Maker: The builder, Alexandre, described this build as a "brat," though I wouldn't have even thought to call it...

Builder Info for this Tracker Build?

Thanks, Angus67! I ended up finding out that it was built by M.E. Motorcycles out of Burton Upon Trent, England. It's on the bottom left of their customs page: http://www.memotorcycles.com/Project_gallery_1.html

Builder Info for this Tracker Build?

Hey y'all, Does anybody know the builder of this street tracker? I found a mention of "M.E. Motorcycles" somewhere, but I can't find any info on the shop or individual. I'm the editor-in-chief over at BikeBound.com, and I want to make sure the builder gets credited when we share this shot...

Location of Key Codes on Later Models

Guys, I want to thank all of you for your help! Y'all rock! I found the key code on the underside of my ignition switch. With a little fiddling, I was actually able to swipe it clean and read it without even removing the switch. I ordered up a new set of keys from bel-ray64083 on eBay, as...

Location of Key Codes on Later Models

Thanks, guys! I was hoping it would be on the gas and seat locks, but no dice. They're completely bare. I'll check the bottom of the switch tomorrow. Lost my key like an idiot, and can't find the spare. I figure the only fool-proof method to find the original key is to order up a new one ;)

Location of Key Codes on Later Models

Hey Guys, I'm looking for the four-digit key code on my 1981 XS650. I know the older models had the key code stamped into the metal face of the ignition, right there next to the key slot, but the later models don't have the code there. Do you guys know where to find it? I've been...

Charging Issue: Help with Findings from Curly's Troubleshooting Guide

Oh boy, I better start looking into this, because my rotor windings look pretty damn toasted. TwoManyXS1Bs: no worries on adding to the "research overload"--I bought this bike largely as a learning platform! If the bike quits charging on me in the meantime and I just need to limp home, I've...

Charging Issue: Help with Findings from Curly's Troubleshooting Guide

TwoManyXS1Bs: wish I'd read that first thread before buying a new pair through Mikes! Leo: thank you so much for the information. I may take out the old ones and stretch the springs while a wait for the new pair to come.

Charging Issue: Help with Findings from Curly's Troubleshooting Guide

UPDATE: I checked the brushes this evening: --Right Brush: 10 mm --Left Brush: 9 mm So they're getting short, but not down to the 7 mm replacement minimum as yet. Here's the funny thing, though. Literally all I did was take the brushes out, measure them, then put them back in. And now...

Charging Issue: Help with Findings from Curly's Troubleshooting Guide

Thank you so much for the advice, guys! I'm going to check those brushes first thing after I get home from work today. I like to start with the simplest thing first, and in this case I totally missed doing that! As far as the voltage drop, it seems like I'm in an acceptable range. My...

Charging Issue: Help with Findings from Curly's Troubleshooting Guide

Thanks! I'll check the brushes tomorrow. Strange that this isn't it in the troubleshooting guide, right? Anything else stand out to you in terms of the other questions?

Charging Issue: Help with Findings from Curly's Troubleshooting Guide

Hi Guys, I'm having a charging issue with my '81 XS650 Special. It began cutting out on me yesterday while riding. Came home and found the battery to be down to 8 volts, and the headlight is not brightening when bike is revved. I have begun going through Curly's charging tests...

Left Cylinder Not Firing at Idle, Fouling Plugs

Thanks TwoManyXS1Bs! Carb syncing is something I hadn't thought about or turned up in research. I'll dig into how to check on this. Do you guys know of a good way to tell if the issue leading to the fouling is too much oil or too little fuel?

Left Cylinder Not Firing at Idle, Fouling Plugs

Thank you so much for the helpful reply, 5twins! That's good to know about the single coil firing both cylinders and it typically being both or neither--I didn't think of that. I checked the wires and plug caps and they look good--fairly new--and everything up at the coil looks good too...

Left Cylinder Not Firing at Idle, Fouling Plugs

Hi Guys, I bought an '81 XS650 Special back in November, and due to some titling issues, I haven't been able to do much riding other than up and down the street until just recently. I finally got the title issues resolved and got the bike out on the road. Unfortunately, it didn't take long...

Pictures of Omar's Street Tracker Fender with 16" Rear Mag?

racerdave: can't believe I missed these. I was looking all over the forum and Google Images. rusty rocket: thanks so much for the pics! This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Looks just fine with the 16" mag, probably because the OD isn't THAT different from the front. One question...
