Bookmarking this for my next ride, which will have to wait until I figure out my right side crank issue. Best motor boat design in history.

That’s right. It’s on the horizon, in the tree line. You need to squint.

Hey GB - New Milford is up county from us, close enough that our schools are in the same high school sports division. I’ve heard of a few hunt clubs, I think that NM one may still be around. Nice town. Litchfield County to the east really opens up.

What is this raspy engine noise? (sudden)

Hi XJ apologies for the delay. Back-to-School week for my boys. But I worked on the bike Saturday and a couple things you said struck home. Since it seems you experienced the same awful whining, how’d you fix it? Here’s what I did: The cam shaft is not loose. I took the covers off each side...

What is this raspy engine noise? (sudden)

So the stator and alternator are aligned correctly and the nut is secure. I have the small cam seal covers off and both sides look leaky. The cam shaft is not wobbly, and turns freely when in push the kick starter down. Maybe oil isn’t getting to the top of the motor. I’ll look around the site...

What is this raspy engine noise? (sudden)

Hi XJ - so it started mid-ride, not upon start up. It was definitely a bright line and noticeable change. I ride home directly after that. I’ll check for signs of a separating crank and do some more resewrxh. Thx k you.

What is this raspy engine noise? (sudden)

Hi Downeaster - yes I am referring to the whining sound, like a drowning cat. Agree that I do need to adjust the tappets because they are too noisy.

What is this raspy engine noise? (sudden)

Hi Forum members! If you have 8 seconds can you listen to this engine noise and lmk if you have any ideas on what might be the cause? It appeared suddenly on a ride. I then changed the oil, and adjusted cam chAin tensioner but the noise is the same. What I did before the noise appeared: new...

Expanded charging system guide (In progress)

Call me Sparky! Well I have my Winter project like it or not. My wire routing may have been the culprit - that TC Bros connector may have been placed a bit too snugly under the seat. And after 2 years of my fat arse riding on top it may have failed. I’ll resolder the connections and start from...

http://www.xs650.com/threads/frozen-17mm-rotor-nut-removal.53676/page-3#post-576194 I’m moving my thread over to the Tech section - note: heed Gggary’s advice and check all components. My rotor was shot so I ordered an new one. I didn’t check my reg/rec because I replaced that a few years ago...
