I Luv my xs650 that is now been handed down to my son who has developed almost as much appreciation as I for this
really cool bike from years ago.I just wanted to thank everyone that has given there precious time, incredible knowledge and patience
to making this not only a fun project over the...
Thx for posting pic GGG GARY, here's a slightly better view with my son the proud new owner!
Great turnout, lots off xs650,s. Thx to all that helped get the bike off my trailer.!
The xs650 was the feature bike off this years show. With really cool t-shirts available.
Met a few guys from the Forum,GGG Gary and friends. Some really nice bikes on display
especially the early 70,s xs650,s. Unfortunately couldn't stay for the whole show so will never know
if we would have...
In approx 4 weeks the biggest vintage bike show and swap meet will take place.
Im heading there with my son and the 77D. First time for me at this show and the xs650 is the feature bike this year to boot!
Its a weekend affair (3 day even) so we will tent it I guess. Should be fun!
Changed both plug caps and ohms dropped to 23k. I checked my wires,0 ohms so there non suppression style. I do have some NGK non resistance plug caps but I’m goin a run it for a bit the way it is.
Seems to start idle and run great.
Installed a PAMCO a while back and was reading some old posts regarding plug, plug wire and caps resistance for optimal results.
Im still a lil grey on exactly how its support to go. I have the Iridium NGK Resistor plugs and caps that came with the kit I ordered.
I installed some new plug wires...
Thx Jim,good to know. For those interested I tested Timing again and my findings are as follows:
Timing plug wire connector can go either way on right cylinder with same readings .
Timing plug wire connector will only work one way on left cylinder with arrow pointing to plug.
Have no idea why...
Interesting read Gary, My Hanes manual states that advance can go thickness of advance mark past the line and still be exceptable
as per Yamaha. I personally feel better having it advance exactly on the line or a hair before. What I meant in other post was does retarding the
ignition timing...
Thx Guys, getting a lil beyond my comprehension in terms of tech talk. GGGgary had a good point in stating that as long as either side does not
over advance past the advance mark at 3000 RPM .Then I should be good, regardless of what's happening at idle.
I will also check with arrow reversed as...
Ok so a positive side and negative side. The left side at least on my bike is really jumpy and really hard to set at idle.
Easier if I idle up to check full advance. The right side seems way more stable. There is definitely a difference in
sides though. I Ohm checked from from one spark plug cap...
I decided to check the Timing before the season begins.Actually I gave the bike to my son (his first bike) I got a new w800 !!
Anyways was showing him how to check the timing with my timing light. Bikes a 77D with electronic Ignition, stock advance.
We tested with the timing light and attached...
