@Camilo Heidentuning doesn’t have anything specific for the old engines, contacted them a few times :) I have bought parts from a lot of different shops by now, for a total just under 1000£ So the engine has pretty much had a complete rebuild. I’m just fiddling with the engine right now...

There are several in USA but since I live in Denmark it would cost more to ship them and take considerably longer time before I got them, in fact, the price of the cheapest collets on eBay with shipping is just 30£ cheaper than buying new (they only have the new type) valves with new collets...

Update: I mounted the cylinders and the rocker arms. :bike: Still trying to get collets.. I’m afraid I might have to order both new valves and collets, since no one have the old type collets

It’s been a while since last update, current status: I have ordered a lot of shit, some of which I later found out I already had in a box, others were hard to get. Some of the parts: New Cam Chain Guide New used cam chain tensioner (roller version) Cam chain... I mounted the pistons last...

Just ordered a few parts, can’t wait to assemble it. I think I forgot to mention that I assembled the crankcases, hopefully I did it right And as I mentioned in the last post, I’m currently polishing the valves and valve seats. Can anyone tell me if it will have an impact on...

Update: I got the cylinders back from cylinder service. They look great! I am currently looking for new studs to mount the cylinders, as I found none in the boxes. New ones are expensive as hell, so I’m hoping a local dealer will give me a good price on a set they have, if I buy some other...

Update! I finally received the parts I need to finish assembling the engine! Plus a little extra. The entire engine is painted now I don’t have a picture of the painted cylinder, but here is a picture of it before paint after the glass blasting. Now I just need to finish the assembly and...

Update ish: Making parts myself and getting frustrated about missing parts. I was annoyed with a rusted roller for the gear drum and didn’t want to waste my time ordering a single roller, so I decided to make my own. I found a rod we had laying around and used our lathe to cut it to the...

Update: Sorry for not posting lately. I’ve been moving into a new apartment, so a lot of time was used on the move and adjusting to the new environment. I haven’t done much, just removing rust from old parts and ordering new to replace the ones too far away from rescue. I’ve used a lot of...

I initially bought the xs 400 because it was cheap(couldn't afford a 650 or any other bike), but I definitely began enjoying all the fixing and polishing it brought along. I wouldn't have bought the 650 project if I didn't ;)

Before anyone states that the engine isn't entirely clean - the metal is discolored because of oxidation, but I will try to clean it further before I complete the assembly, despite the fact that I have already used countless hours cleaning it on the inside.

Okay stopping the paint comments, if the paint ends up not being durable enough I’ll just have to paint it again. Update: Sunday I brought the engine cases back to the garage (Which is called Revival Garage, if anyone wants to see what we do, we got a Facebook page and instagram account.)...

I can't see why I would test the paint with carb cleaner, as the engine won't be exposed to carb cleaner when installed? I tested the paint after the curing process, and gasoline didn't really do anything to it, and since gasoline will be the strongest substance the bike might be exposed to, I...

Update: Lower engine case is done, I will test the resistance towards gasoline later. If the paint proves to be good enough I will leave it as is, if not I will paint it with motip clear lacquer heat resistant to 800 Celsius and gasoline resistant. Like the first case I started out cleaning...

Update: Bearing has been changed and the upper engine case panited and cured in oven. I couldn’t see the difference between paint and bare metal at first, so I almost put a too thick coat on, but I managed. Lots of pictures was once requested, so here’s a few:

I ended up just dropping it off at the neighbor to my garage community and let him do the work, he told me to come back tomorrow so that I will. I'll update you as soon as possible.

Update: Today i prepared to paint the upper crank case, figured I wouldn’t be a big deal. I removed the threaded rods and any leftover grease and paint. It all went well until I noticed that the gear shaft needle bearing still sad snug in the case, so I tried to push it out, but the little...
