    Anyone recognize this washer?

I took the clutch cover off my ‘79 and discovered this washer at the bottom of the engine case below the crank. It feels like it has a little lip on it like it was compressed. The one photo shows the spot I found it. Any ideas where it’s supposed to be other than floating around in the engine?

Cleaning out the garage, I have some XS650 items that I’m going to offer up one more time before I toss them. I don’t want this stuff in my garage anymore. Make me a reasonable offer. I love doing package deals! I hate doing the back and forth b.s. about shipping prices so please make your...

    Sold / Found / Inactive - Clutch '80+

Anyone have a 1980 or up complete clutch they would be willing to part with? I'm looking for the 6 friction plates version. Would like it to be complete and in working order. If I need to replace fibers/steels/springs I'm okay with that. Just looking for something that's usable and not covered...

    Bought another parallel twin

I wasn't planning on it, I swear! Kinda strange how things work out sometimes. I was planning on getting a completely different bike but this opportunity came up and I couldn't let it pass. I got myself a 2020 KTM 890 Duke R, "The Super Scalpel". And my lord, a scalpel it is! This thing rips...

Rear axle help, drum won't rotate, chain slap also

I’ve reached a stumbling block that I cannot sort out. Hoping to find some help from those wiser than I... (notice - the explanation is lengthy but I tried to be thorough) I cannot properly tighten the rear axle on my bobber and I’m at a loss. One of two things happens. 1. I use a thicker...

    Weeping fuel fitting...sealant?

Upon recently completing my build, the final step was to put fuel in it and fire it up. I discovered that my fuel hose barb fitting has a slight weep at the threads from the tank bung. I used a weld in bung, 1/4" NPT, and I'm using a 90º elbow 1/4" fuel fitting. Because it's a 90º bend, it has...

Wiring gurus, can you double check my wiring, please? I have a '79 Standard model. Totally custom build with a fresh wire harness with all the safety switches and relays removed. My question is in regards to the charging, starting and ignition systems. Nothing to do with lighting yet. Stock...

    Actually stiffer fork springs

I've been searching all over for info on stiffer fork springs, but everything I've been finding is in regards to replacing worn out stock springs with new stock springs to stiffen up the front. I'm looking for fork springs that are stiffer than stock. I ride spirited, and off-road, and I want...

    Sold / Found / Inactive - Tank for '79 XS650

I discovered a non-repairable issue with the tank that came with my bike. Looking for a dent free, good condition fuel tank for my '79 XS650. Needs to have twin petcocks. Petcocks, gas cap and gaskets don't need to be in great condition since I have new ones. Send me photos and asking price...

Tall shocks, chain clearance and tension, oh my

A couple questions for those who have pumped up their back ends. I installed a set of 14.25" shocks on my XS and am running into some chain clearance and tension issues. Prior to installing them, I did a bunch of searching to find out if there would be any problems to address with it, but...

    timing troubles and identification help

Hello, new to the forum here. I picked up a '79 XS650 basket case. First off, I'd like to determine exactly which sub-model of XS I have. Engine number is 2F0-173457, according to the tables I found by googling "XS650 identification", I should have an XS-F. Does that sound correct? My main...
