The bike runs, I think the battery is just weak, or maybe theres a hidden electrical problem. It has rebuilt carbs.
Yes bikes are not a "money maker" by any means.
Yes its a few hours away so I would bring a truck to pick it up.
I think it comes down to, do i love the bike/ platform/ year...
Ok whats this worth? It needs a new battery, spark plugs, and gas tank has rust i guess making it leak, so needs that fixed. I dont have much experience with specials.
Price $700 pretty firm, is that good?
Not even worth $300 in parts? The gauges are worth about $50, wheels look fine. If it had the nicer 750 tank that would make it much better!
But yeah, if it has a bad oil leak and mystery engine, compression etc its just a lot of work. I need to be sure I love the bike otherwise its never going...
Thanks, he said he would do $310, but after sleeping on it today i woke up and realized I have too many projects. And it makes sense to devote time into bikes that have more value and i like more. Its like opening a can of worms, where does it stop? How much money do i want to put into it.
I...
It is a nice bike indeed. Personally I am impressed how easily I can cruise on the freeway at 75 to 80 mph. The RPM I cant pinpoint it but maybe 4-5k and it had a lot more to go. It looks like you have a special which might have the electronic ignition. That is very good and less maintaince vs...
Maybe one of these could be the culplit to the xs750 not having spark then?
Still at $300 ~ for the bike is it a good deal, or even a steal? The gauges are nice, show 15k miles, tires seem good, he said he bought new petcocks and a new air filter and maybe theres a few more parts. Edit: here is...
I think it is the ignition then maybe? Is that hard to find expensive or? I guess I can look on ebay.
He said he can turn it over and it cranks but there is zero spark, maybe its just something cheap and easy?
Can i get some quick advice before tomorrow please! If I can get this for 3-400 is this a good deal? I dont know anything about the 750

Seller's Description
I got this bike as a barn find hoping to get it running. I belive it's a 1977 or 1978. I almost got it running after I put oil in...
Thats a good deal for $1200, i got some work cut out for me. But, i only paid $180, so when i do the work myself I will have a bike for around $700. This is assuming the motor doesnt need a rebuild. (i have no clue if it does yet)
Thanks for getting me motivated to do some stuff to the GL500 I just bought! I need to get motivated to order a tank, side covers, seat (or make my own).
Plans are to source some side covers, gauges, and a tank, buy some tires and a seat. I do NOT want to sink more than another $3-400 into it. I have other bikes im working on for that! But first off I would like to see if it runs/ get it running!
If I get lucky and the motor is not seized then I...
No its a 500, I mean its pretty rough, im not sure if I overpaid waking up this morning. But a quick ebay search of the carbs selling for $125 - $200 means that I could break even on just that If i wanted to part this bike out.
I paid just ($180) but got no title with it, need to pick it up tomorrow morning. It's a GL which has a few differences vs. the CX500. The mono shock and the ignition. Along with supposedly better front forks which have air valves and are different somehow.
Despite a roached tank, headlight...
Whats a good option to easily increase the rear rim size to a 18 inch? Is that really the biggest difference?
Are these special spoked steel rims preferable to comstars?
This is all the ad said ill copy it...

Condition Used - Poor, significant wear
1980 XS650. Clean title. Not running. Great project or restoration.
Thanks, so it looks like this one has the new ignition, thoughts on that? And thoughts on overall deal if its good or not? Assuming we dont know if the motor runs, seized up, etc.
