For Sale - 1981 Yamaha 650 Motorcycle T1291664(New London WI)

Gents, thought I'd post this Rawhide ebay store auction here. I bought my 1980 XS650SG from these people in fall of 2018. Was a gem. This bike looks real clean, price seems good too. Like this one, my carbs leaked bad. Was float bowls float valve mung and drool causing leak. Looks like this XS...

    engine trouble

857, I installed a pair of the JBM diaphragms in my bs34 '80sg a few months ago. Instant smooth running engine. Old 'phragm in right carb had a very small hole. Smooth install, A+ recommend JBM.

New here, where does this go?

RadMax, I replied to your post in my thread I linked above for my mc source. My bars are the Emgo Chrome Flat Track Handlebar Part #: 23-12583. Bought them from Dennis Kirk, about $33. Comfortable bar for me, about 33" wide. Put those old fashioned Gran Turismo grips on, like them.

Here's a link to the mc I bought. Be mindful that it is 14mm, and those who know here suggest that a 13mm is a better way to go. Also, the rim of the mc reservoir was finished as cast. Rough, and not a good seal surface for the top that has the rubber membrane imo. What I did was, starting w/150...

New here, where does this go?

Welcome RadMax. Your story is like mine wanting to do a XS650 project. Mine , a 1980 XS650SG, came home last October, runs great. I'm calling what I'm doing a ratty restomod. You started a bit earlier at 26yo, me, I'm 61yo, like the vintage mc more better. Here's the start of my story...

Thank you Pete! If I could I'd for sure move the lift into the living-room. Issue is steps & doorway, lol. I have a nice workshop in basement though, so component work is easy to do. gggGary-The Baron of Baraboo, that's a catchy title! Pat

Thanks Gary, I do spend time doing research here. I sure do appreciate the contribution you experienced folks provide. More to be done too Gary. Swing arm bushings, tapered steer head bearings. When the exhaust crossover finally rots through I'll replace system. I like the MAC 2x2. Tough part...

Caliper Seal Kit pn 1J3-W0047-00 what's this, seal grease?

Thanks for the replies Gents. Yes, the inside hollow is rusty. I'll be sure to coat the inside and so forth when I reassemble the piston. How I got here was installing a new master. When bleeding I kept getting bubbles when I shouldn't be. I figured I was pulling air past the caliper seal. I...

Caliper Seal Kit pn 1J3-W0047-00 what's this, seal grease?

I bought a Yamaha brake caliper seal kit from PartZilla. In the kit is a small plastic sealed bag with what looks like lube of some sort. Anyone know what this is for? Normal practice is to wet all parts with brake fluid for assembly. BTW, I wound up having to order a new piston as the old one...

    Fork Oil preferences

Today I disassembled right fork assembly (left tomorrow). I swear that in 39 years the fork oil was never serviced. Foul syrupy mud, what was left in there. I confirmed that the tube had a bit of a bend in it too. Some surface rust and the suspected bent tube were why I bought a set of good...
