Hello all,
we’re a new club of wrench rats in Colorado Springs that are looking for other local folks who like bangin’ on xs’s or folks who may be considering buying an xs! Check us out on Instagram for more info!
Looking for folks local to Colorado Springs who own an xs650, running or not, who enjoy the bike and want to share their passion with likeminded wrench rats!
Hello,
I just rebuilt my engine and replaced a fair number of parts, and I am now having an odd problem statically timing the spark.
Known variables:
I do not know when the last time the engine ran before I rebuilt it.
I had Hugh's Handbuilt rebuild the crank, it is not rephased.
I...
Hello all,
I've sketched up a wiring diagram for my 1975 XS650B, which is a hardtail chopper project.
it has the stock alternator, as well as:
a TCBro's reg/reg: http://www.tcbroschoppers.com/regulator-rectifier-yamaha-xs650-points-ignition-models.html.
a TCBro's headlight...
Hello,
I am looking for a nice set of fork lowers for a chopper project. I already have stanchions and all the bits including the trees and caliper, however I am willing to pay the extra for a complete set of forks if the lowers are in really tip-top shape (with consideration to their age)...
I have a caliper assembly that fits the 34mm forks I'm running on my hardtail project. I cant figure out which pads to get from mikes though, because two of the options have key tabs on them. can anyone eyeball this caliper and let me know which of these two sets of pads is the correct set...
In another thread on this site XSJohn mentioned something that would lower cylinder temps by 20+ degrees.
I am REALLY interested in finding out exactly what John was talking about here, so I did some digging.
XSJohn's comments are in blue for clarity.
This is a start, but there has to more...
Hello,
Bit of a newbie question but I recently bought an 1975 XS650B and subsequently discovered that the forks that were installed on the bike were XS400 forks, and totally don't fit the bike (the stem is too short). Because of this I've gone ahead and bought 34MM forks from a fellow forum...
Hello,
I am talking with a guy in virginia about a set of forks he's got for (we think) an XS650. I'm interested in using just the forks, triple tree, bar clamps, and axle. I won't be using the fender, wheel, bars, or headlight brackets. I might use the hand controls but I haven't decided yet...
Hello,
I took some measurements on the alternator I have and I need to know if they are good readings. It will eventually get replaced with a PMA kit from Hugh's but those are expensive, I am broke, and they are out of stock at the moment anyway. So for now, I am hoping to be able to use this...
Hello,
I have a set of forks I'm trying to rebuild and I've got a bit of a quandary. I purchased this set of forks with my XS650 under the assumption that they were XS650 forks but that does not appear to be the case! 5twins suggested in another thread that they may be from an XS500 given that...
Hello folks,
I've got me heart set on a nice set of TCBros front springer forks. the construction looks super solid from their video, and they come with lots of support in terms of calipers, bar mounts, and all that rigamarole. the trouble is, with all this corona quarantine happening i am...
Hello all,
I know it's near sacrilege to chop up an old XS frame, but I felt this frame was a good candidate because when I bought it it had already had some of the seat pan chopped off, as well as some of the frame around the swing arm though I can't say for sure what those frame bits did...
Hello all,
Bit of a newbie question but My manual is ambiguous about the correct installation of the shift actuator thingamy under the left case cover. have I installed it correctly? or does the metal side go into the cover with the plastic presenting outward?
Hello all,
I have a 1975 XS-B that I am rebuilding, but unfortunately the case was unusable. Gary Hoos from Hoos racing (http://www.hoosracing.com) sent me a XS-J case for the cost of shipping. An absolute saint, I must say. Anyway, I decided to try and remove the black case paint from the...
I saw Johns post regarding adding an oil cooler from the larger displacement Yamaha's of the day to the 650, and I've been absolutely determined to do the same to my bike so I can take it all over the states and possibly down through Mexico with less chance of breaking down during long rides...
Hello,
I have some old cylinder jugs that need to be bored 1 (maybe 2) over bore, but I can't seem to find any shops in my area by searching on line. Does anyone have some suggestions for Colorado? I'm able to drive anywhere in the Colorado Springs, Denver, and Pueblo area.
Is there somewhere to buy parts for the neck lock mechanism? preferably a replacement lock and key set that drop in to the shank on the neck. If not, is there any way to service the stock lock? I have the lock body, but no key, and it'll have whatever pins/wafers it came with from the factory in it.
I'm wondering what two of the three top mounts do on the 1975 XS-B frame.
I know the #1 mount is the top motor mount, and just has a bracket that bolts to the top of the engine, nothing fancy. and I'm pretty sure the #2 mount is for the two top ignition coils, but I can't for the life of me...
Hello all,
I have the guts from a 1975 447 motor but the case has unfortunately been tended to at some point by a chimpanzee. All four of the locating pins for the crank bearings on the upper case have been smashed in because the bearings weren't lined up properly when the halves were...
