What have you done to your XS today?

About finished messing with wheels spokes weights bearings...letting the thought of using "beads" in my tubes leave my mind. Just going to stick 42 gm of 7gm on the rear n 49 gm on the front rim as they all balanced out and spin strait. A 1st for me.

What have you done to your XS today?

Really didn't get much going on rear wheel except driving big bearing in to the ledge placing the seal on it, fitting #20/21 dust cap to check fit. Ran the axle through the swing are and brake hub to see if the spacers, etc looked correct (swing arm upside down in pic). Otherwise, lol, stared at...

What have you done to your XS today?

Humm, little longer swing arm and like Machine's and I could use a later dated chain guard for wider rear springs. Not as much done as I would have liked over weekend. Did lace up the new aluminum rear wheel and went shinny on the ft. drive cover vs clean and light polish on ft. and rear hubs/...

What have you done to your XS today?

Yep, all sorts of stuff running through my head. just got of the phone with the Ikon, USA fellow. Sent him the link to Mailman's Ikon review w/ the pics. Ikon home base is working hard to catch up on back log. But, shipping logistics big problem for various reasons + USA doesn't know exactly...

What have you done to your XS today?

You know, if I had waited one day to order shocks, really several hours and saw this...and found the Ikon USA site, I would have gone with these and used my original chain guard. Those chain guards are beefy, I could always get my Dremel cutter out :). I have a little rub mark from the original...

What have you done to your XS today?

Looking for a chain guard in lieu of my original to adapt to my '72 so as to use aftermarket shocks and springs. I see that the Specials had a cut out for clearing the springs. maybe I could adapt this : https://yamahaxs650.com/product/chain-guard-chrome/. I could delete that guard all together...

What have you done to your XS today?

Said I wasn't going to touch the bike again this weekend. Polished up outside of the speedo drive, banged a bearing into the ft hub. Stood, stared, went to the diagrams...part #'s (#10 on '72 rubber seal: 93105-45017-00) saying "No way..wrong seal'. Saw an SD 60 72 7 on the table that fit in...

What have you done to your XS today?

Just fried my handy HF ultrasonic cleaner by over filling while trying to loosen up my throttle grip from the metal...came off anyway in boiling water. Sort of gave new life to the old original grip. That said, was about to order some silligrips and was trying to take some measurements. Those...

For Sale - Rewound Alternator Rotor

looking at all of the shiny 'new' rotors, I have been wondering if there is any noticeable effect by brushing off the outer metal that gets magnetized? I ask because mine still have an even coating only with some crud. A screw driver still slaps down on them all. Going to clean the copper and...

XS650 Ignition timing revisited - Are we too advanced?

I did that on my old 'hemi' Jaguar strait 6 engine....added a Pertronix pick up; MSD box; had orig. dizzy rebuilt and curved so I could adjust idle to +15 deg. and not run over 28-29 deg over 3000 rpm. Helped smooth over hi-lift cam idle and more / smooth power up to thru 6000. running 93...

What have you done to your XS today?

One fork seal took 9 mins in a boiling sonic bath and came out normally. One took 16 min. before it was ready. Looks like the easy seal was a replacement and the knuckle head was an original. Getting the hang the polish wheel. Stopped to wipe off that dk.grey polish stick with KruddCutter, soap...
