Upgraded Sump filter and mileage change intervals

An interesting side effect of putting the EX500 carbs on my XS650 is that you have to give it a little bit of gas to start it in the morning and then it revs up to 3 or 4,000. It can't be helped. Well come to think of it I could probably put a little bit bigger choke jet in it and that would...

    XXX Piston Porn

That doesn't look like detonation yes, it looks like part of the ring broke off and bounced around up in there for a while

Alternator modification by ungrounding the brush and using a solid state regulator/rectifier.

I have an 81 Engine with TCI in my 75 frame and the voltage regulator was overcharging so I fitted the Dodge Automotive regulator and did not need the nylon screw mod

    Adopting another problem child

I have the same bike and really like the patina on the tank too. Just pulled it out of mothballs yesterday and it started with one kick!

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

I tried switching to a different needle size and my bike wouldn't even start. And it should be running totally off the idle circuit to start. I know you clean your carbs last year but sometimes you have to clean them two or three times to get all of it

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

Also your mixture setting is way off because you should be able to turn your idle screw in a couple turns without it jumping up to the main jet and revving up

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

I guess you get to try a number 42 pilot jet :)

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

When the carb is still dirty or the idle is too lean you will end up with the throttle plates open too much and it won't like to start

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

My bike is also a little hard to start when cold. I think that if it had the airbox it might be a little better but that might be a function of these carbs that they are a more modern efficient design than the original BS Mikuni carbs and might be a little stingy on fuel. I also have a suspicion...

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

This makes me want to make two points. They're both pretty critical. 1 needles are black magic a tiny change can make it go from running to not running. I'm using stock noodles with one washer underneath them oh, I'm hoping to take it to a nearby dyno this summer but it seems to run awfully...

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

I have a similar setup with uni filters and Sportster mufflers and I'm using a 38 pilot jet at about 2 and 3/4 to 3 and a quarter turns out. Cuz if you already have a 40 pilot and it likes four plus turns out then I think you maybe need to clean your carbs some more or something. But if you...

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

Okay see you say that you have a 40 pilot jet. But then you say do you need to up it to a 40 pilot jet? What pilot do you actually have?

How to tighten rear axle castle nut without chain adjuster moving

You are right that your bearings could be messed up or spacer could be collapsed some

How to tighten rear axle castle nut without chain adjuster moving

My 75 did the exact same thing and I already told you how I fixed it. Also that's not an uncommon problem. Bicycles do that, motorcycles do that. You have to make sure that you have all the parts in The Hub correctly so that your axle nut doesn't run out of threads and bottom out. And hey in...

How to tighten rear axle castle nut without chain adjuster moving

If that's the most annoying probably over have to deal with and you're very lucky. Putting in an additional washer in there or your spacing is off somehow.

How to tighten rear axle castle nut without chain adjuster moving

Hey I see you posted in multiple threads about your axle problem Thomas. First make sure that your axle nut threads on smoothly I've had to chase the threads on a couple of those axles, they're soft and sticky. Then put it back together with a little bit of grease and make your chain tensioner...

    Tci injection?

I did exactly this swap and I needed to replace the mechanical voltage regulator to have it charge but not blow bulbs. That required a little wiring change. ;)

lost of power in Cylinder after 10 min at 100km/hr

My only "breakdowns" were from rust in the tank prior to cleaning it well. Would happen after a few minutes at highway speeds.

    Another Oil Sump Repair

No pics but my lastest upgrade is I machined and tapped out the front oil plug to fit a modern 12mm drain plug with a high strength magnet inside of the old and huge 27 mm plug. So now a quick dump of most of the oil takes 5 minutes with a 17mm socket and a modern 12mm crush washer.
