    Solar Eclipse

I’d imagine most here will be viewing the solar eclipse next week. I asked a friend if he will be viewing it and he commented maybe next time, to which I replied, not unless you know something I don’t know. lol. Looks like we will have a premium viewing spot here in southern Ontario. We’re...

Cordless air compressor - any good?

A friend just bought a cheap, Amazon air compressor to take to the track to fine tune pressure in his bike tires. Typical me with tools, now that I’ve seen it, I want one. The reviews appear to be good. I thought I might get one to use on the bikes or at the cotrage to save starting up a full...

    Grease vs antisieze

Question for the lube guru’s. If I want to lubricate a shaft that isn’t rotating at high speed, say something with a lever that rocks back and forth say 90 - 180 degrees with moderate load, would it be better to use conventional grease or antisieze?

    Chinese laser welder

I’ve seen lots of ads pop up for laser welders. Here’s a short vid of one being tested. Looks quite large - base unit plus wire feeder. I think they’re quite expensive too. Big down side, from this test, is the inability to weld where there’s gaps in the metal. This may however be a...

    World stats

Not sure of the accuracy of this, but interesting nonetheless: Earth's population is approximately 7.8 billion people. For most people, that's a large number, that's all. However, if you count the world's 7.8 billion people as 100% human, these percentages become clearer. From 100% of people...

Insurance - cost of use. 💸💸💸

I was just thinking about this yesterday. I pay about $2600 per year for motorcycle insurance - 3 bikes (one bike is fully insured and the other two are liability only). If our riding season is 6 months long and I ride 3X per week, it costs me $36 per ride for insurance. Last year it rained so...

    Suzuki GR650 - thread closed.

I may be too late but there’s a 1984 GR650 Suzuki for sale not too far from me. I’m interested in it as it’s in nice shape (as seen in pictures) and the price is attractive. Anyone have any intel on these bikes - good or bad. Seems like Suzuki’s distant cousin to the XS. I’ve quickly read up...

    Best tape?

I’m working on my car engine (on a stand) and will be applying storage spray to the valve train. This will involve spraying the valves through the intake and exhaust ports. Once done, I want to seal things up again for a while. The engine builder used some sort of masking tape that until now...

    Rear shocks and other stuff..

I attended a vintage bike group meeting last night and we had a small swap meet. I planned to get rid of some stuff but ended up taking home more than I brought there. Included in my box of new treasures, was this pair of shocks. They looked too cool to leave behind. I Googled the company...

Hunting rodents - the “Rat Zapper”

Here’s a new project. For Christmas, my brother in law gave me a new and improved mouse trap. It’s called a Rat Zapper. For the record, I’ve never had a rat (non human) near our house but get the odd mouse under my deck or other small rodents. This machine runs on 4 x AA batteries. It has a...

    Next project?

Now the Shadow has been completed, I’m looking for the next project bike (post beetle). I’ve always been intrigued by thumpers. Last summer I attended a bike meet and met up with a guy that had a really cool Suzuki Savage. Any thoughts on what I might look out for? I’d most likely keep it...

Auto start / stop technology explained

I stumbled onto this video. It was quite interesting as the guy explains how the newish start / stop engine technology works in your vehicle. It’s half an hour but interesting. If this was posted before - apologies.

    Roloc disc hack

When cleaning up my aluminum bits, I ended up using blue Roloc discs on my Milwaukee cordless “die grinder”. This tool on runs max 4,000 rpm. I’m sure many on this site use these (rolocs) on a regular basis. When used quite a bit, the diameter of the disc shrinks and the amount of abrasive on...

    Brake lubricant

My supply of Sil-Glyde has come to an end and I need to buy more or a substitute. Looking on line I am reminded at how expensive everything has become. I use this to lube brake slide pins and other wear surfaces on braking systems. I also have used it to lube rubber bits to assist in assembly...

New to me - ‘95 Honda Shadow VLX600

I thought I should have a back up project for the winter, so I made a commitment to buy a ‘95 Honda Shadow VLX600. I don’t have a good picture to share of the actual bike. This beast has a whopping 41 hp, channeled through a 4 speed tranny! The bike has less than 2,000 miles, needs carb work...

Getting the ‘57 beetle back on the road in 2024

At long last I’m starting to work on my ‘57 beetle with plans to have it on the road by late spring, early summer of next year. The engine has been in my basement for close to a year and each time I go down and lift the cover, it’s in the same state of disassembly as last time I looked. I’ll...
