Big thanks jetmechmarty!! Tried to place an order but apparently there's been other people reading this thread (lol) Even though they say they have 1 in stock (I was just going to order to see if it would work in the bike.) when I try to order it, it says "quantity not available" . But I will...

    led

Thanks for that jetmechmarty. Ok, you obviously know a lot about led's, how they work and where to get them. dare I ask where I can get the leds for the gauge lights? I tried autozone and napa auto with no luck. Found a place online (...bulbs.com) but they said they couldn't guarantee anything...

gggGary, you sure have a wealth of knowledge and experience doing diy/making things work old school. I was just reading your post on swapping out front brake rotors for other modern yamaha discs.(we can't all afford brembo kits). And you share your info. KUDOS! And thanks to you too...

    led

Thanks for the quick responses. I'll try Autozone and Napa Auto tomorrow since they're closed now (unless there are better sources). Ya, I looked at the headlights a yr or 2 back and they were $$$ $400+. What do you mean it can be a "....challenge" Jetmechmarty? And thanks for the details on...

Hey everyone, I just got some new rubbers (or whatever they are called) for my 2 insturment gauges. Since I have them apart, I was wondering if anyone has had good luck with converting these to led? Or for that matter, converting their headlights and tailights as well? I have a 1980 xs650...

    Mailmans XS2 , the rebuild.......again

Jim, I've thought about this as well (1 full size battery though). My only concerns were 1) heat from the exhaust 2) road debris Do you know if the heat from the exhuast would affect the battery at all? And on the plus side, you move the center of gravity down :)

    Mailmans XS2 , the rebuild.......again

Ya, I think all Batteries Plus AGM batteries (for our application) are between 200-220 cca. And their regular batteries cca are around what you got. The lithium? 280 cca. And you can really tell :)

    Mailmans XS2 , the rebuild.......again

Although it might be a little late since you already ordered a battery, + 1 for Batteries Plus Bulbs. I had some of the exact same symptoms as you are having. Hadn't really thought much about the battery, but one day, it just gave out. I did a bunch of research and decided to go with the...

    Reseal, Rebuild or Resize?

I think that's why 5twins put's his stable square stand on a harbor freight dolly. You get the best of both worlds. It can go from a stable benchtop to easily manuverable around the shop on a dolly. And his handles help him get it from one to the other. But I'm not the pro. These guys are. Jim...

    Reseal, Rebuild or Resize?

650skull - It was not my intent to "complain". Far from it. I am extremely grateful for ALL the help and support I have received here from everyone. So if I offended you (or anyone else on here) I apologize. Maybe what I said was because of my years in I.T. I don't know. But it was in no way...

    Reseal, Rebuild or Resize?

5t - I was looking through my scrap heap yesterday, taking some measurements and looking throughout this site. Do you happen to have or know where I can get the dimensions for your little red stand? The one that attaches to the bottom 2 bolts? Thanks in advance.

    Reseal, Rebuild or Resize?

When first thinking about this, that was my first thought, "The problem is, there's nothing to grab onto" to get this out. Funny, I was thinking steel tubing like you show just hadn't given much thought to how/where to attacch to the engine. I LOVE your green "quick detach grab handles"! Are...

Jim - I like your engine stand. Clean, simple, effective. Just my style. Nice write up as well (all your stuff is. Very well documented and photographed.) How heavy is the engine though if you have to be flipping it all the time? Actually, 5t said I shouldn't have to be flipping it upside down...

Thank you 650skull. Good to be here. I didn't know there were different xs650 models in 1980. Good to know. I'll try and get some pics up this weekend. Those are some great links that answer some of my questions. Got the downloads from the last link too. You must have some really organized...
