    Wanted - xs1 or xs2 or 73tx headlight.

I haven’t taken the assembly completely apart yet but in that case wouldn’t I loose the ability to adjust my beam? Or does the new beam fit into another part that has the tabs for the trim ring? If you’ve got an incandescent retrofitted Koito I may be interested as my XS1 is full stock

    Wanted - xs1 or xs2 or 73tx headlight.

I don’t want to hijack this thread but I’m looking for the same thing, a headlight for my XS1. It’s 7 inches across and the Koito number is 110-31835. Yes you can get 7” sealed beams but I doubt you can pull those tabs for mounting to the trim ring off the back of the light, they look spot...

    XS1 Crankcase Repair

Update: I was bending and filing the broken chunk with plenty of success. I had it dead on but it still didn’t fit quite right. It was then I noticed another crack in the shifter pin hole. That was the final mail in the coffin, I could glue the piece back but after however many heat cycles and...

The crack into the gear selector doesn’t go that far in. Looks like I forgot a photo

    XS1 Crankcase Repair

So I’ve got an early 3/1970 XS1, drop dead gorgeous bike with only 8500 miles. Ran awesome until eBay sent me the wrong chain which proceeded to break and send itself through the cover over the forward sprocket on the upper crank case. Bike still runs fine but I’m devastated, I love this bike...

    XS1 Motor Disassembly Help

I’m lucky, stole some from some scrap pallets at the hardware store. Going to try and straighten the bent chunk and glue it I think. This thing runs too nice to risk taking the shifter forks out

    XS1 Motor Disassembly Help

Not a bad idea, might give it a go today. I’m a college student without a proper vice but I have a workbench and C clamps.

It is definitely bent some, I could try bending it back and gluing it again? How could I bend it?

    XS1 Motor Disassembly Help

Do you have some photos? Again the biggest issue is the chunk that broke off is deformed so I’m not sure how to get it to fit right

    XS1 Motor Disassembly Help

You know what you’re talking about and this is my baby, my dream bike, it’s worth doing right the first time. So that leads back to the original question, how do I get the advance unit off? I was able to get those screws out with a #3 bit at the end of a breaker bar but I’m not sure how to get...

    XS1 Motor Disassembly Help

My thoughts exactly. This motor only has 8500 miles on it and started and idled absolutely perfect. I have friends doing big bore kits and full engine rebuilds and it becomes problem after problem so I agree with trying to have it done in place. My main concern is the selector drum shaft where...

    XS1 Motor Disassembly Help

Ok I’m lost now. I’d really like to think I can get away with not disassembling the motor as it ran beautifully beforehand but I’m getting mixed answers. THE CHUNK THAT CAME OFF IS BENT! Gluing it as I tried before resulted in the attached photo. What I’m hearing is it was stressed and has...

    XS1 Motor Disassembly Help

I tried to JB weld this, didn’t hold as I need to bend the chunk that came off back so the screw hole aligns. I can get the old JB weld off just fine with a torch so that isn’t an issue. In terms of turn around time I’ll be out of town for some time soon so having a temp fix now won’t do me much...

    XS1 Motor Disassembly Help

Hmm, I’m not sure if that’s a possibility. The crack goes through part of the shifter fork pin hole. Honestly though if I don’t have to take it all apart I’ll take it

    XS1 Motor Disassembly Help

Yep that’s them, that’s the problem. I’ll try with a drill and a fat Phillips bit. My goal is to have the jugs off today and the case out to the welder by the fourth. Fingers crossed

    XS1 Motor Disassembly Help

Thank you for your kind words, it’s been hard for me to face it. I’m bound and determined to get it back together. Off topic but do you know how to get the screws off from behind the advance and points plates off? Other than that I should be able to get it apart without too much trouble.

    XS1 Motor Disassembly Help

Yeah I got it right here. Again I’m completely devastated with the damage. Bike still runs fine but has a gaping hole in the crankcase so I’m getting this fixed right
