Ok. Wires put back to match photo. Orange and grey wires disconnected. One probe on engine, one on top bolt or bottom bolt. I am getting discontinuity when points are not touching. I dont have a book, but what i found online says .012-.016. I set to .016.

Ok. This is maddening. Maybe i have this wrong. The points break the ground, right? The fixed part of the mechanism is always grounded, then when the point makes contact it grounds it. So, with a meter checking continuity between the wore to the points and the engine would beep then not beep...

I Got a spark!!! All this talk had me dig deeper on the continuity thing. What I was finding was I was not getting continuitiy at the points themselves; literally from the bottom of the point to the top of the piece it hits. I sanded those down with some 400 grit and it got better. i also...

Ok, so maybe that found an issue? With points closed (making contact....is that closed?) I have continuity. If i kove then by hand to break contact.....i still have continuity. So it appears the points are not ever breaking ground. I assume that is not normal? I am going from orange leads at...

So if i understand correctly: 1. Unplug orange to orange wire at one coil amd orange to gray at the other coil. 2.where do i attach probes for checking continuity at points?

I saw another post where it said to put the meter at 200 and touch probes together. I do that and it reads 1.1.

Funny you should say that. So i took the whole thing off and just connected the two wires. Start button didnt work. unless, of course it is on the handlbar (ground, I assume) and then it works.
