    Programmable advance TCI Replacement

For the record, yesterday Jim successfully updated the TCI firmware so we'll be able to continue some tests on his rig...

    Programmable advance TCI Replacement

I don't remember if we talked about the second pickup, the one at 15° btdc we saw the 40° is definitely a PN type (first pulse positive) but is the other the same? Not sure because of the common gnd... I'll send to Jim a new FW to use the 15° pkp for the first 10sec to avoid kick-back then it'll...

DVA adaptor for testing pulse coils

it's a simple rectifier with a high voltage capacitor, nothing fancy: Helpful? No. A voltmeter in 400VAC position is enough to troubleshoot. If no spark you don't really care about "peak voltage" ;)

    Programmable advance TCI Replacement

idle pickup goes to the small green wire. No rush either, I still have to test the firmware before the upgrade...

    Programmable advance TCI Replacement

Right, there is this risk too, of a too low battery voltage when cranking. Hopefully Jim will be able to get a scope view of the 12v power line. It'll give us a idea if either or not the voltage drops too much...

    Programmable advance TCI Replacement

It's more a winter freeze. I sent Jim a procedure to upgrade the firmware and I currently modify it to get use of the second idle pickup, hoping it'll ease the starter....

    Programmable advance TCI Replacement

:) Nope. Look at the Dump @216: 3F in Hex is 63°btdc 50° is just a default value IF we come to use a Hall sensor instead of the genuine VR pkp. Jim wanna play with a hall sensor....

    Programmable advance TCI Replacement

you don't miss anything, all those parameters have been already wrote down with the timing values and pkp position tested by 2XSive https://www.xs650.com/threads/programmable-advance-tci-replacement.62456/post-761598 Anyway there is a backdoor to change them in case...

your browser certainly went back to its prefered Wifi Access Point. Check twice it's still connected to "transmic_ign", check that the box is still in "Setup Mode" 1 quick and 3 long flashes on the blue led then flash every 5 seconds Open a command prompt (Run > cmd) and type: ping 192.168.4.1...

    Programmable advance TCI Replacement

2,3 things I should have told you beforehand Jim, -The 5 pins connector and the USB cable are ONLY for this POC, in case we need to update the firmware. Otherwise they wont be any usb. -Setup jumper: As we cannot use the kill sw on the XS650 to switch on to setup mode, there is this jumper...

    Programmable advance TCI Replacement

Thanks all for your willingness. @Jim you also have a scope so if you agree you'll be the first beta-tester. For now it's in production, once I get and test them, I'm going to go back to you...

    Programmable advance TCI Replacement

You are right, I considered there was only one pickup and forgot there are 2 of them and the TCI uses the positive wave of each. In the meantime, I redrew a TCI for XS650 with another input stage much more sensitive using a VR conditioner so it should be able to see the pickup even with less...

    Programmable advance TCI Replacement

On TCI side, it's possible to change the input circuitry to deal with low voltage, probably around 0.7volts. Otherwise the Hall sensor is the easiest way to go...

    Programmable advance TCI Replacement

From Jim's scope snapshot https://www.xs650.com/attachments/1661824425101-png.223450/ the "magnet" inside the rotor seems to be 25° lenght according to the distance from the positive to the neg. wave. sleddog83 said the stock TCI uses the negative wave. So IF the neg half (trailing edge of the...
