For Sale - 1981 XS with early re-pahsed engine

Thanks barncat. Yes the tank mount is just a threaded hole on both sides of the down tube. They are far enough down not to be stress risers. I'm not concerned with over 3000 miles ridden since completion. If I end up keeping the bike I want to try a 36mm carb, possible a 36mm pumper. Your also...

For Sale - 1981 XS with early re-pahsed engine

I was just looking at your bike. Very cool! I'm running a Mikuni 38mm carb, an old VM model with no accelerator pump. I think my main jet is a #145, not sure on the rest. I have a big flat spot transitioning from low throttle to high when the weather is cold. Need to find a good pumper carb if I...

For Sale - 1981 XS with early re-pahsed engine

Lots of views, no comments? Thought there'd be some interest. Doubt you could build a bike yourself or commission a build for the asking price on this one.

For Sale - 1981 XS with early re-pahsed engine

It' been six months since I last rode my Yamaha. Other than looking at it as a piece of art in my eyes, I need to sell it as I don't have the garage space to keep it around any longer. Some of the specs; engine is early 256 with compression release, 277 re-phased, new valve guides, new...

You might be a redneck if........

Great idea. Got to disperse the beer and ice to both sides though so balance is maintained. Might hamper keeping tools and clothes dry.

You might want to watch this, but you've been warned...

In my MSF course we had to practice counter steering by riding up a lane of cones. They split into two lanes either left or right. A "Y" so to speak. The instructor would stand back a ways from the split and as you rode towards him, he would signal right or left. We were to push hard in the...

    David bird

Love my DB looped hard tail. Got mine in about five weeks through Lowbrow. Love the quality and the welds are perfect(wish I could TIG that good). But I did encounter one problem. The right side loop was about 3/8" shorter than the left loop. Not a real bad problem, but made for an interesting...

    277 rephase ignition details

I agree with TonyC. Mr. Riggs came up with the best home grown re-phase ignition yet. I wish he would make a run of reluctors. It's the only part I have no clue how to make. I would buy a couple for future projects.

    any Goldwingers in here

Just picked up a 1975 GL1000. Stored in an extra room in Texas for about 30 years. Only has 3800 miles on it. Guy I bought it from had it torn down to do new timing belts and carb rebuilds. I went even further and resealed all the coolant lines too. Just got it running this last Saturday. Needs...

    Project... "Fast & Flow"

I took an engine apart once that didn't have a pin in one bearing. It was ugly. Hopefully you figure it out quick and it's not expensive. Like Toomany says, check down below. Magnets full of metal, problems. No metal there, you are probably OK.

    Project... "Fast & Flow"

Mine had metal, but not that much. Where is the rattle? Top or bottom end? Did you get all the pins in the crank bearings? I'm thinking a crank bearing is spinning. Pull your sump filter also. See what it looks like.

81 XS650 hardtail build. let's call this one the "Flying Crowbar"

Are you going to do struts on the rear fender? Looks like it will bounce around a lot in the current state. Nice build BTW.

    Fallen off lately?

I've had some good get offs in the dirt. Pancaked my XR650R on a sandy rolling off road trail that was peppered with exposed rock. Resulted in a tear of skin on my right elbow that required a box of staples. If I hadn't been wearing body armor, I would of shattered the elbow. Rode out and loaded...
