    jetting question

Er... No. You can't go up 15% in displacement and run the same jets *over the whole rpm range*. If you're sticking below 5500rpm, i could buy it, for at least mains/needle position. 750 rephase with a 71 cam, 78 bs38's, mac 2 into 1, and pods and i couldn't get the plugs to come off stark...

Bike only runs with choke on.

"fuel screws" - you mean the tiny screws on top in towers? If it's stripped, find the smallest easy out you can, drill *very* carefully into the brass, and ease it out. P.O. has probably lost the washer/o-ring that's supposed to go in there as well, so just order a couple of kits.

    Mono brake... death trap?

In Ontario, it's illegal (which doesn't affect you, but a little bit of info). In fact, the law states you must have "two independently operated brakes", so no single lever with a proportioning valve either.

Changing ignitions from TCI to points

plus 1 on the compression test. especially because you said "one plug had a hint of oil". if the carbs are assumed good (and you've tried a different set with same results) and switching the plug leads doesn't move the problem, it's engine related, not spark or fuel.

    Why no bolt one hardtails?

    Because weld on are better.

Wiil carbs from 76 work on my 71

liked carbs are *always* better than their unlinked versions, if only for balancing. my opinion is that $80 isn't a ridiculous price, either., if they came off a running bike. it's still really buyer beware though. if he's got the pods, ask him if he's got the carb mounts as well and will throw...

    Loading/Moving Engine by Yourself

get a good grip, pick it up. it's not *that* heavy. have a scooter board waiting at the tailgate of your estate, use your knees, not your back, voila.

Performance Oil Filter/Cooler Kit Part #15-6504 from Mikes

the screw on filter stands out much more, but provides much more filter area. it kinda looks like it would get in the way of your foot.

Performance Oil Filter/Cooler Kit Part #15-6504 from Mikes

have one. love it. not so much for the cooling as for the paper filtration.

First problem with new bike...carb related of course.

look like they could be '79 BS38's. Take a pic of the inside of the slide (where the needle goes) and post. what's up with the screw in the throttle? Also, you'll want to pull those screws on the sides out (VERY CAREFULLY), pull the springs, then under the springs will be a tiny little...

Why do people hide their xs's?

I can honestly say there are more xs's in my garage (4) than all the others i know of in T.O. (3).

    Valve Adjustment Theory Or Hypothisis?

oh yes. early xs1/xs2 cams are the shiznit. :D Check your manual for the profile changes.

    Valve Adjustment Theory Or Hypothisis?

the early specs reflect cam profile changes. they pretty much settled the cam after 76. In general, you should follow whatever year your cam is for clearances, since (aside from decompression levers and the like) nothing changed in the head or valve train otherwise.

No power in 4th and 5th gear

take your carbs out and clean and spec them to stock. Make sure everything is the same on both sides.

    750 277 rephase with bs38's and mac 2 into 1 and pods

it's running the 277 pamco. although i had to go back to the stock coils because i could not get enough clearance between the tank and the green monsters, and i wanted it to remain as stock looking as possible. i may take another whack at mounting them this winter, but it runs fine. as for the...

    750 277 rephase with bs38's and mac 2 into 1 and pods

yep, that's the one. it's a serious monster now. hey, since you built the motor, does it have the 5th gear increase? i'm *sure* i was higher than 4k at 70mph before...

    engine tear down

do *all* your circlips.they're cheap, and they're steel too. what might look good to the naked eye probably isn't. in fact, i would *probably* do the wrist pins as well.

    750 277 rephase with bs38's and mac 2 into 1 and pods

Yeah, my only problem now is clutch slippage. Oh well, got that xs performance and heavier springs on the shelf for this winter. :D

    Running/idling problems, backfiring...old gas?

check your plugs. They're probably fouled. it sounds to me like *perhaps* the PO (and i'm making assumptions here) put on pods and shorties then said "better go up to ridiculously large jets now that i'm moving more air" - which you're actually not. Take the carbs apart, clean them, check the...
