    Doms XS650B US import

Had to sell my old girl about a month ago! After 20 years of ownership I decided it was time for it to move on to a new home. Its new owner promised to do as the OP Dom has done, and make a complete resto of the thing, so I don't feel too bad. Plus I now have sufficient funds to start a full...

For Sale - selling my beloved ‘75

I'm wishing Steve all the best! I trust he'll give the bike the attention it deserves, and he's indicated he plans to just leave it 'stock'...... A plan I hope he sticks to, but it's his bike now, so what he does with it is his prerogative. I kinda feel like I'm amid some 'purge' movie...

For Sale - selling my beloved ‘75

I'll miss her, but she needed some attention that she wasn't getting from me! I'm deep into MANY other things right now, but I do have enough 'stuff' here to actually build myself yet another XS. Sadly, the title/frame combo that I have has been 'chopped' by someone at some point. Thankfully...

well, looks like the bike is going to a new home. I hate to see it go, but many a fond memory will remain!

For Sale - selling my beloved ‘75

I’m showing the bike to a local interested party tomorrow, so I’ll get some pics up tomorrow as well. Hopefully they’ll be goodbye pics, but even if so, the bike deserves a little ‘public recognition’ one way or the other. If it does go I’ll shed a tear, but trust it will be going to a good...

For Sale - selling my beloved ‘75

A llot of sentimentality attached to this bike. It was my first XS many moons ago, as well as owned an ridden by my oldest son for about 10 years as well. He returned it to me a couple years ago because he relocated from Detroit, Mi to Naples, Fl, and can’t have a motorcycle in his new home.

For Sale - selling my beloved ‘75

so, I’m on my cell phone here and not much good at pecking away at it, but I’ve made the decision to sell my 1975 Yamaha XS650 Standard. It’s buried in the back of my garage and not easily accessible, but suffice it to say that it’s in good shape both cosmetically and mechanically. Not...

XS400 parts on an XS650: Will it work?

Well, I've got $225 plus a tank of gas ($80) in it. So, $300 give or take. It was probably a bad decision, but at this point I've got little left to lose if I at least give a shot at swapping the front end on to the 650 frame. If that doesn't work, then I guess I'll just put it back on the...

XS400 parts on an XS650: Will it work?

It's an 18" ft wheel! I figured it would work, but it was more the rear swing arm w/ the disc set-up that I was wondering about. But, maybe you're right! Just sell the whole lot of it and be done with it!

XS400 parts on an XS650: Will it work?

I've had a '79 XS650 sitting out in my driveway for the past few years; a 'project' bike that someone has done some significant frame modifications to. As the bike sits, it's basically just an engine in a frame cradle, with the swing arm still intact, but the upper rear section has been hacked...

    81 xs650 dies while cruising.

I'm a huge fan of this Gonzo conversion! My only suggestion to any who go thru this in the future is that, in going back to the OP's original problem, I like the idea of trying to take a ride on a 'battery only' set up. I disconnect EVERYTHING and just wire up the ignition as minimally as I...

    SLA Battery or PMA system?

I went thru the charging system on my '75 several years ago. I recall putting in an electronic voltage regulator / diode unit, and I think I was replacing an old 'mechanical' regulator. I definitely recall cleaning up the contact rings on the rotor, as well as replacing brushes and springs and...

    Pipe Dreams or Dream Pipes?

Horsepower/torque gains with an exhaust are 'almost' ALWAYS associated with the need to add fuel in the mixture to take advantage of the better breathing. Ergo the gains from the exhaust cannot be credited to the exhaust alone. Arguably its the added fuel thats providing the power gains, with...

TCI box - a successful repair, electronic ignition, ignitor

There's another thread I just noted called 'Gonzo Turns One' here on this web site....... so maybe further support info there as well. When I did my investigating in to this process I came to a couple of conclusiont: One: virtually ANY XS650 could be converted to becoming an 'electronic...

TCI box - a successful repair, electronic ignition, ignitor

For what it's worth, there is a 'fix' that is a whole lot easier than making what are likely futile attempts to fix an old TCI box. This 'fix' involves the simple replacement of the OE TCI box with a Suzuki 250 box. I'm not recalling at the moment exactly where the thread on this lies here...

'82 XS - no headlight! The saga continues

I recall putting an in-line on/off switch on the ground side of one of my prior XS bikes. Simple! Anyway, relay block reinstalled, and I had headlight illumination... for all of about 10 seconds. Then, poof!! ... bulb burned out. Turned out to be an older sealed beam type headlight with a...

'82 XS - no headlight! The saga continues

Huh......??? I wonder is my side-stand switch is still working? I've started the bike several times now, and even ridden it around in my neighborhood. But, it never ocurred to me to see if the side-stand switch was functioning or not. I seem to remember that it will kill the engine, even...
