    Timing chain guides

OK, one last try. I do not have the original guide for the front. If anyone out there has one to spare I am interested. Please respond at your convenience. Thanks,

    Timing chain guides

Back to the original question. You said previous the angle is correct for the New MikesXS front guide. Again, I have no casting at all form this rebuild. Am I understanding this correctly? Use the rubber guide from the 500 on a Mikes front guide? So for the confusion mates but ya, I'm confused.

    Timing chain guides

Deal is, I obviously have operating guides in the current engine in my '75 but, I am without the guide base for my rebuild. I have the rear no problem but never got the front with parts.

    Timing chain guides

Well that's unfortunate. Matter of fact I think it was you Jim that set me straight on these last I enquired some time ago. Even ordered the '500 piece referenced for the build your own (see pic) but hey, really was looking for an easier way out.

    Timing chain guides

Thanks for this Melnic. Have heard the same from the supplier north of the border here in Canada who accessed it from the same supplier but was looking to avoid risk of poor fit after spending the money. Probably pretty rare that a tear down somewhere has one functional. Probably roll the dice.

    Timing chain guides

Have heard from some pretty well respected authorities on this site that the front timing chain guide for a 1975 650xs sold by MikesXS is a bad fit. Different from the rear guide which is the one tasked with adjustment, the front guide bolt holes are apparently milled incorrectly or at least...

Duh! Thanks Gary. Even though it just barely reaches now with the connector attached it still appears he has more slack than I. Just want to make sure I have enough to connect over the cam when the time comes.

Got one made.See pic. Question, how come your chain reaches all the way up and around the guide? Mine barely reaches it and I only disconnected it from new.

    Gearbox Inspection - Opinions Please

Other than a really hard look at any wear on the shifter forks I have two other pieces of advice. Get yourself a copy of Pahl's Yamaha XS 650 Engine Book and next, listen to everything they tell you on this forum. Couldn't have completed my bottom end without them.

    Torque bolts???

Thats really helpful Jim. When I get them back from blasting I will follow your direction and if need be (likely) respond further. Best I recall the cylinders were pretty clean except for some light surface rust. Really regretting leaving them at the blaster now as I am really anxious to see...

    Torque bolts???

Thanks again. Once I get them back from blasting the crap off the outside, (PO thought it was a good idea to try and spray paint), Its off to my capable machine shop for honing/measurement/advice/expertise required. Appreciate the video in particular. Terrific stuff but for total accuracy I...

    Torque bolts???

Thanks jp. Would you recommend honing the cylinders first for an accurate measurement?

    Torque bolts???

So am I good for standard pistons with the 010 cylinders purchased? I assume it states cylinder bore size 75.010 with the 75 not shown.
