Belt driven alternator set up? Pics included

Interesting and sorry for the late response as I don’t post much here anymore. Not because I don’t love XS anymore. Just life happens man. I’m actually in IL, but the other end closer to St Louis.

Eliminate the battery '73 TX650 Flat Tracker

Since it IS in fact just a race bike. IF it were me, if I were dead set on ditching the battery, if my engine wasn't rephased and it was racing purposes... I would probably go the Morris Mag in the links I posted before. That way on a race bike, you're literally capable of ditching both the...

+1 Scott Also, just out of curiousity, do you have the wiring diagram that you used? I'm assuming you used one from here?

Eliminate the battery '73 TX650 Flat Tracker

Yeah, I am actually with Fred. Also forgot about the damned Morris Magneto... I've apparently been gone too long. If you are dead set in doing a 100% battery free motor AND this is a 100% race bike (no headlight, tail light or anything else) I would absolutely do the Magneto. Not only...

Eliminate the battery '73 TX650 Flat Tracker

I forgot about the Powerdynamo. However, if he pieces the PMA together (the cheapest way) he wouldn't be running the Chinese parts. My PMA is NOS Japanese parts for a VF500. Matching stator and reg/rect.

Eliminate the battery '73 TX650 Flat Tracker

Leo, I thought about that as well, but it would also depend on the length of the race AND whether or not the bike is for racing only. I should have asked.

Eliminate the battery '73 TX650 Flat Tracker

Ok, so I read your other post from March, looks like you have a 1973 TX650. In that case, you would only need to do a PMA swap and add a capacitor, if you want to remove the battery. However, there is one other option that I didn't list above because it doesn't actually eliminate the battery...

Eliminate the battery '73 TX650 Flat Tracker

The only way to eliminate the battery, that I am aware of, is to do a PMA swap and replace the battery with a capacitor. Just search for the PMA on here, plenty of threads. You can either buy one or piece one together (wayyyyy cheaper). What year bike do you have? Really what I'm asking is...

    Laid down my '71.......

Bummer man, Glad you're ok. I've been there and done that. I'm glad you and the bike came out of it better than I did. Shit does happen. I was pissed as my wreck happened. You're a better man than I. Although, the lady that I wrecked into didn't even get out of the car to look....

    No spark 72' with Pamco , e-advanced

You're right, it definitely doesn't say that anymore. I wonder if @pamcopete changed the board to not need one or what. However, used to, there was definitely instruction to put a 7.5a fuse in there.
