Gday there ladies and gents. I have a question regarding solid state reg/recs. I know there is a lot of threads in relation to this but none quite like the question I have.
Recently my XS charge PMA broke a mount and cooked itself. I have a spare standard 70-79 charging system that I was gonna...
I have a crank wheel that the threaded end where the alternator lock nut sits is bent.
The easy fix would be to get another wheel, but this is a 533 crank which are pretty scarce here in NZ and the crank has been rebuilt, welded and runs very true.
It does not need to be 100% as it will be...
One of my sons have a 1982 XT250, sort of a monoshocked baby brother of the XT500. This is actually a nice and lightweight little offroader. I believe its main drawback is the poor 6V headlight. The alternator and ignition on this bike is PMA type and CDI.
I assume any 6V alternator can be...
Hi all, for a 1974 engine I am bulding from parts from everywhere :/ I'm after the following :-
1. A couple of standard 447 Pistons
2. Valve springs, seats, tops and collets
3. Left hand side casing
4. Alternator stator
5. All the starter gear setup behind the clutch
Due to the virus I no...
Hi Guys,
Ive been rebuilding my 1980 yamaha 650 xs special 2, and have run into some problems, hoping the much smarter folks here can lend their expertise??
I have a new stator a new reg rectifier, new ignition switch, new stator, and a newer harness which was replaced in 2016 (all from mikes...
Hello all,
I've sketched up a wiring diagram for my 1975 XS650B, which is a hardtail chopper project.
it has the stock alternator, as well as:
a TCBro's reg/reg: http://www.tcbroschoppers.com/regulator-rectifier-yamaha-xs650-points-ignition-models.html.
a TCBro's headlight...
Hi all,
I purchased my XS650 without any bolts for the Alternator/Left Crankcase Cover and haven't been able to find them on the threads. Does anybody know the size/dimensions of the 6 bolts or if there is a kit online where I could buy them?
Thanks!
Matthew
Hello,
I took some measurements on the alternator I have and I need to know if they are good readings. It will eventually get replaced with a PMA kit from Hugh's but those are expensive, I am broke, and they are out of stock at the moment anyway. So for now, I am hoping to be able to use this...
This section deals with the '80 and newer A type regulator system. For '79 and earlier bikes, see comment #2.
Comment #3 discusses using modern rectifiers.
So, I've been getting quiet a few PM's lately about how I wired my reg/rec on the 80SG resto. I know there's a lot of info on this site...
I am curious about the weight of the stock alternator rotor and stator, as well asthe battery box incl. voltage regulator and all other doo-dads, except the starter solenoid.?
I would like to build a shallower, lighter battery box, so I can free up more space for longer air filters.
I already...
I'm hanging out my shingle....
Band of Brothers Rewinding Service is open for business (thanks Bob:D)
You can read here all the work that went into getting to this point.
Send me your rotor. If it's a serviceable core, I'll rewind it with TEMCo MW0181 22 ga. wire. Run-out will be tested before...
After many years searching for an XS650 in Mexico in decent condition(they weren't originally sold here). I've finally found one thats close to where I live and in good condition. However it doesn't have an Alternator, I'm sure this question has been asked a thousand times but English being my...
This morning bike started normal with choke depressed as I waited for it to warm up. But when I opened the choke up and went to leave my garage as soon as I started to accelerate I lost power and it cut out. I went to start again and it seemed like it didn't want to, but I figured it wasn't warm...
I have read the crap out of the forum trying to get answers to this but I just cant manage it!
I bought the complete kit off hughs handbuilt and fully installed the hardware for it, looks great! Now its just finalizing the wiring and getting it to run my bike, that is where I am struggling...
hey guys so ive got a 79 motor thats been sat outside with out an alternator cover on for a while. to the eye the stator looks alright but wanted to know if theres any way of testing it without the engine running? ive just had 5 months off work after a crash so would rather not be spending any...
So long story short I am looking to do something different with my charging system.
I would love to do a pma from hughes, but do too budget constraints I would like to get a little creative.
I have seen the use of a belt drive alternator on a xs650 before, but it is a little more "junkyard"...
So I have the bike torn down and rewired and all but ready to ride and I go to find that one of the mounting points for the stator to be bolted down has been destroyed. Looks to me that the PO broke a bolt off. Then broke an easy out. Then decided to drill it.
The hole is mangled. No chance...
Hi guys,
I've been reading this forum for a while as I've been working on my '78 Special, but this is my first post.
This spring I did the PMA swap using Hugh's kit. The swap seemed to work great and for a few months the bike was riding great. After a few months, however, the battery...
So I built me a cafe racer and when i finished I realized im only running on one cylinder. I have 150 compression, great spark, and fuel in the carbs. but when its running I can pull the left side spark plug wire and it still runs but when i put the plug back start up again and pull right side...
