hi guys, new to building bikes. i was wondering whats people opinion on what step i should take after getting the hardtail welded on. its a 78, i was thinking of setting up the handel bars and seat, then start on the brakes. after that ill have figured out if i should up grade to a big bore kit...
Here is the the link to all of the build pics. This bike is so much fun! I really abused this forum during this build, so much good information.:thumbsup...
OK so its been a while since I have been on the xs650.com, as I sold my last xs early last year. I have recently made a move to the east coast and now its time to build another XS in New York.
My last build thread is here and a pic of it below...
Ok so I bought this 1975 xs a few months ago. I did not pay a whole lot for it but it had already had the engine bored out to a 750 and a few parts switched out from newer 650's. So this was perfect because I was not wanting to butcher an original bike. I have a 1976 cb550 for that. Anyway...
I was just browsing the JimLomas website for exhaust etc. for my RD350, when I came across these floating discs for TZ250 and 350.
I am pretty sure the bolt pattern is the same as on the XS, since the OEM disc on early TZ models were using the TX type carrier.
I think these are a much...
Finally!!
The bike is on the road, today was the Official inspection from the Swedish "Vehicle-inspection"....passed with no remarks, absolutely 100% road legal!!
It has been a timeconsuming but fun project, the goal was to do ALL work, machining of parts, painting and so on all by my self....and so...
I read that a rm 250 21 inch wheel was a easy swap so went and ordered a 78 after doing some research that both axles were 17mm got the wheel today and it's way off. Does anyone now what or where to just buy a spool hub that will fit the xs axle? And if I can use just the rim from the 78 and...
Hello all! I have a basket case 82 xs650 that is missing quit a few things. This bike has a kick start and a starter on it. I want it to be kick start so would I need to install points? Thanks
I'm new to the community, so please forgive some ignorance. I know what a chopper is, from watching Easy Rider in the '70, but I don't know the details of all the terms I'm seeing here. I think a cafe racer is a bike where you lean forward and scream through police blockades, but I have no idea...
I have got my bike torn down for a top end rebuild. I am ordering first over pistons and rings and was looking for a shop to bore my sleeves, clean up the head and check the seats on the valves. Does anyone have any experience with any shops in Alabama? Would just any machine shop be able to do...
I have a 1977 Standard (D), which has a rather bulky seat latch/lock housing welded on to the subframe. This makes it impossible to fit my MotoLanna seat, as the seat hits this housing before seating properly on the subframe/ seat rails.
I have been wondering if I could use the seat latch...
I know there's alot of threads for a 21" wheel swap. I just have a question on the axle. I've read that the rm250 front 21" dirtbike wheel is the easiest swap. Now would I be using the stock xs axle or the RM axle. Because I notice the older RM axle is all one size unlike the xs axle at the end...
Greetings. This is the first post in this thread - it pertains to a 1982 XS 650 Heritage Special that I acquired last Sunday. It had spent the past 25 years in a storage warehouse in Llano County, Texas, and is now residing in Wimberley, Texas.
The bike has 13.2K miles on it and other than...
Hello everyone new member ,long time creeper haha. So i figured that I might as well start this thing off right by an intro and an insight to my build . So 2 weeks ago I picked up a 75 that someone had put a tracker rear section on and rode it a total of 3 days and decided...sweet I not my kind...
hey guys and gals, I successfully tore down the motor and case. I'm about to start soda blasting it clean. Once done should I reassemble and then paint or paint before reassemble?
:D:thumbsup:
Ive been working on this project for a couple years and have flip flopped a lot and i think i have finally gotten to a point where i am ready for my final steps. i was just wondering if there is anything else i should do before i do paint and powder coat.
what i have done.

Hi all, let me start by saying this site is awesome. I recently purchased a 1979 xs650 special. Unsure whats going to happen with her yet, but I am pretty excited about this little bike. THanks for all the usefull info you guys provide on this site!! Pictures of the bike soon!!:thumbsup:
And so it begins, Kinda. Im really not suppose to be working on this project yet, but sometimes you just can't help it. Since this an 11000 original mile bike that has been sitting for 30 years I am thinking I will see if it will run. So I started to check the filter screens and then went to...
was trying like hell to find a xs650 to build but ended up getting a deal on a 1982 xj550 maxim. it sat for a year and was used as a stunt bike, ignition is fubared, carbs need rebuilt, needs throttle/brake cables and a bunch of other stuff. this will be my first bike build after owning a few...
