I have a 77 xs650 and got the Mikuni VM round slide 34mm performance carb kit. With the jets in it the bike did not run great. I welded on some pipes that I got off someone. They are straight pipes with baffles in them so I’m guessing there’s not too much back pressure. I have the UNI foam air...
Can anyone help me figure out what size carbs I need for my 1972 xs2? I’ve been looking around and I want to go with a pair of Mikuni slide carbs. I’ve noticed there are a few different sizes, 32mm and 34mm being the ones I see the most and both say they would fit my engine. Thanks for any...
Hello again everyone. Got some questions that i haven't been able to find my self to ask.
On vm carbs is the way of checking float height with a sight gauge just the same as bs carbs attaching a clear hose abd checking the level. I dont think there are zerk fitting as large as the opening for...
Here’s my dilemma. Just recently got my
Bike all put together motor rebuilt by limeys bike shop in Austin TX. Bike fires up and runs but after it gets warmed up, say 10 or 15 minutes into the ride if I slow down to a stop say at a red light or stop sign my left carb will hiss like a backfire out...
Regarding the numbering and the jet size. From what I have read the number is related to the amount of water flow through the orifice over a given time and not the size of the orifice.
Is it correct to assume that a #360 will flow twice the amount of a #180 jet if all other things are equal?
In the "Ron Wood BMW" thread there was a comment regarding intake length. I believe I have posted on that subject before, but anyway. So here goes:
On a stock framed XS650, with any linked carbs, like the stock BS 34 and 38, Mikuni RS34, Keihin CR/FCR, and the popular Kawasaki 500 flatslide CV...
The day is January 1, 2021 and it's raining ice in NW Ohio right now. I snuck out to the garage to tinker on the bike just a moment ago and thought it'd be a good time to post it to the forum. I'm a newbie here and this is my first post.
About two weeks ago, my dad gave me his 1979 XS650...
Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. I'm working on a 1979 XS650SF project, and I'm searching for a good set of BS38's Let me know your price, and shipping costs via PM. Please include a photo. Thanks!
I have a 78' xs650 special
And it runs more or less really good even though its been sitting for a few years. I went to ride it home was accelerating nicley. Got it up to 60-65 for about 15-20 mins roughly but i had been riding it for at least 30mins non stop. Then it starts to sputter and lose...
Off of a 1980 XS650, have been in the garage for awhile. Good shape. Asking 130.00 shoot me an offer. I can send more pics upon request. It will only let me upload 2 on here.
Hey guys, Long time reader of these forum post but this is my first time posting
I have a 73 TX650 that I just finished doing a bunch of upgrades on (mosfet regulator rectifier, battery, xscharge electronic ignition gen II, battery box, counterbalance seat, special tank with new paint, and new...
Hey there, another new guy with more carb questions for those of you who aren't sick of them yet!
Heres the story.
-History
Purchased a 78 xs650 with about 9000 miles that was kept just outside of the D.C. area, and brought it down to Mississippi. Bike is super clean, new gaskets just about...
In another thread on this site XSJohn mentioned something that would lower cylinder temps by 20+ degrees.
I am REALLY interested in finding out exactly what John was talking about here, so I did some digging.
XSJohn's comments are in blue for clarity.
This is a start, but there has to more...
Hello all,
While tearing down my bs34’s for a rebuild, I stripped the very soft screws on the brace on the bottom. To be able to work on the separately, I took a sawzall to it thinking I could just find another one.... I can’t. Can’t even find the correct dimensions for hole placement to just...
Okay so I'll give you guys the whole story without going overboard here.
I got this bike when I turned 21 from my dad. It was sitting in a barn for years but a good friend of ours fixed it up and sold it to him. As soon as I started riding there were all sorts of problems. Bad connections, old...
It seems the boat and snowmobile guys have known about these things for years. Even S&S offers a version for the Harley riders running S&S carbs. And perhaps I'm the last person in the world to learn about the Thunder Power Jet which according to the manufacturer, not only provides additional...
Not sure how to find these springs, I need the inside spring close to the right carb, and the spring on the outside left carb. I have parts I could trade if possible. The left spring is number 56 in the Haynes manual, the spring by the right carb isn't numbered in the manual. Maybe one of...
So I just got some new pilot screws for my 79’ with BS38 carbs. Mikesxs has a disclaimer about the o-rings on the replacement mix screws not fitting in all carbs potentially. Of course I’m one of the sorry sons of a bitch that the o-rings ended up being to big for my carb body. I would just pull...
So I decided to re-tune and sync the carbs on my 79’ today because, since I finished this build and initially tuned and synced the carbs, the left cylinder seems to run smooth and the right cylinder just seems to not be running as smooth. It runs, but just not with the same steady cadence as the...
