    TCI system worth replacing?

Hey all, I'm new to the forum and have been reading a bunch and don't see much about the TCI ignition system in particular. I just picked up a 1980 xs that has been mostly stripped and caffe'd. It ran well when I got it, carbs recently cleaned, and I have been riding it for about a month. It...

    Pamco 277 Wiring

Hows it going all, recently purchased a Pamco 277 igniton to replace my point model on my rephased 78 650. Was having timing issues and decided to upgrade to the Pamco. I installed the ignition using Hughes's guide. The problem I'm having is wiring to my coils. The wires coming out of the coils...

    Mikesxs stock coil replacement connections

So I ordered two replacement coils from mikesxs (the ones for the original points system). I went to swap them in and noticed that the male and female terminals are swapped on the wire colors compared to the stock coils. Will they work normal if I hook them up how they are? Or do I have to...

No spark on "bad decision" bike

Hey everyone I'm new here so bare with me... So, I got this crazy idea a couple months ago that I wanted to build a bobber out of a xs650 even though I had no prior experience working on motorcycles but plenty with working on cars and I consider myself an easy learner when it comes to...

Not to sound Dumb but how do you tell right from left?

Okay, I do know my right from left, Mom marked the back of my hands with R &L years ago! Now that I think back on it she could have just marked one but she didn't want to take any chances! My real question is in relation to wiring of my 1978 XS650. The signals, the coils and contact breakers...

    TX650 Suddenly Running Horribly

Hello all - brand n00b here, looking for ancient wisdom of the 1970s...I have recently acquired a very nice original condition TX650 - all there, great paint, great chrome, and ran great once it had a new battery and fuel. Unfortunately, while riding last week (have put quite a lot of miles on...

    Dual Fire Coils

Am I right in assuming these would work on our XS's? I am looking at an Andrews unit, 2.8 Ohms for an 83, TCI equipped bike. Stock coil seems a bit weak. Hard starting, some missing at idle on the right cylinder. I figure a new coil t 3X the output voltage wouldn't hurt at any rate. Not sold...

    Possible Ignition Issues?

Hey all, It has been a long while since I have posted here, but the long winter months have gotten me thinking again. I have a 1980 XS650 Special, and I have been chasing very intermittent issues with it over the past few years. Up until this point I have always thought it to be fuel related...

How to Install Dual Output Ignition Coil for 277* Rephase?

I guess my first questions is, can you run a single, meaning one individual unit, dual-output ignition coil with PAMCO ignition and a 277* rephase??? I bought a PAMCO kit from Mike's XS, and it came with two, single output/outlet ignition coils, one for each cylinder. Unfortunately, they're...

'75 rephase, Pamco electronic ignition, not working, need diagnostic help :)

Hey guys, I have a 1975 XS650 rephase that I am just getting put back together for the spring. I am working through the electrical right now and found that I have no spark on my right cylinder. I checked the plugs, then swapped then, the no-spark stayed with the right cylinder, and the...

Rephased motors! Where do you guys locate your coils? (If you use the rephased Pamco)

The title really says it all, just trying to get some ideas for relocating the coils. Currently on my non-repahsed motor my coil is in the stock location. But when I do get around to rephasing, idk where in the hell to put them so they're in a good looking and functionable spot.

    Simple Electrical Problem Solved

A few months back I ordered a high output coil (Part #17-6903) and plug wires (Part #23-2906) from Mike's XS but didn't get around to putting them on until a few days ago. And my bike started running like crap and fouling plugs. So this morning I started troubleshooting but everything checked...
