    Inverted controls

So, I’m thinking of doing inverted controls. But, and this is a juicy one. Has anyone ever installed them? Where does the clutch reservoir go! I’m assuming wired through the handlebars. Anything else you can add would be great.

    "Used" Forks - need opinions

Hello, I am talking with a guy in virginia about a set of forks he's got for (we think) an XS650. I'm interested in using just the forks, triple tree, bar clamps, and axle. I won't be using the fender, wheel, bars, or headlight brackets. I might use the hand controls but I haven't decided yet...

    Cafe Racer Controls

Hello all, I've looked high and low for a set of matching controls for my xs 650 build. I have yet to find a clutch, brake and master cylinder along with a throttle that match. Has anyone had any success in this area they can share? As my first build I'm also unclear about the specs. needed for...

It is a 1982 xs650. I am trying to finish this part as cost effectively as possible. What I need is a...

    Perfect, but then no spark

Everything was perfect and then one morning, I get 200 yards from the driveway and the engine dies. There is gas and air but no spark. What is it? CDI? It's not the kickstand switch. I tried to bump start it, but the engine just turns over until I come to a stop.

    Custom Aluminum Steering Damper for 70-73 XS1 XS1B XS2 TX650

A couple months ago, one of our members asked me to make him a metal steering damper knob for his early XS. Quote: "Functional and similar to the original, but with a polished metal chrome look." Searched the web and found a likely candidate, 3-1/8" diameter cast aluminum knobs with 9...

Is the shifter made from steel?

Can anyone confirm what metal the foot shift lever is made from? I have an extra billet aluminum one from a dirt bike I would like to weld the splined end of a stock XS shifter on, but I am not sure what the stock one is. It seems like steel. Thanks.

    Esoteric Pamco/motogadget question + request

I have done some searching about this with inconclusive results. Reading some stuff on this thread and elsewhere about how having the power on, but the bike not running, can fry one's Pamco and/or coil got me thinking about how I've got mine set up. The suggestion in that thread was to make...

Throttle sleeves, plastic vs original alloy

I saw that replacement throttle sleeve are plastic. Mine is alloy. What's your experience on the plastic one? Would the plastic make the throttle respond quicker and better than the original alloy sleeve? Or does it just wear out soon?

Looking for some more "upswept" handlebars

Just acquired a 1975 XS650 and I'm looking forward to some good times. First impression is that I really like it, but I would prefer slightly higher handlebars, similar to the Yamaha Special. Not a full "ape hanger" chopper style, but slightly higher and more upswept than the stock handlebars...

    Finding the correct speedometer cable

I restored a 1978 XS650SE a few years ago and I'm going back to do a few things I never got just right. The first is the speedometer cable, it is not long enough to put through the loop attached to the front finder. It is the cable that came with the bike. Other wise it fits and works, just not...

In need of some guidence on my 1973 TX650.

Hello everyone, I would like to start out by saying that I have read a lot of these forums a few years back on and off, well before I ever had a bike. You all seem very helpful, understanding, and overall friendly. I am happy to be part of the community now. My goal is to turn this into a...

    Mid Controls and Exhaust

Hey Gang, I want to mount some OSS mid controls on my '79 Special. The problem I run into is the stock exhaust on the right side interferes with the modified brake lever. I need to replace the exhaust anyway since it the cans are rusting out. The question I have is, if I get the headers by...

Drilling out footpeg studs and tapping for bolts instead

I am in the middle of building mild rearset footpeg plates, and now I realize that the stock/ OEM stud+cap nut setup may become a problem for my ankles.... One solution would be to cut off the studs, then drill&tap M10 holes, and use shouldered M10 flat head or domed head bolts instead...
