Hey guys,
Just a quick question for you, I bought a 1974 XS650 and I’m wondering if the 94 octane gas is safe to use?
I overheard someone saying that the 94 burns hotter then the 87 or 89 octane and it might blow the engine?
What do you guys think?
Cheers,
Jake
Just a quick question for you guys. I bought a 1974 XS650 and I’m just wondering if 94 octane gasoline is good/safe to use?
Just want to double check because I heard someone say to be careful since it burns hotter then 87 or 89 and can blow the engine or something like this.
Much appreciated...

So, what are y'alls thought on winterizing the fuel system?
Fill it up with non-alcohol blended fuel and call it good? If there's a general consensus here on the forum, I couldn't find it.
So I’ve been having some carb trouble - I think I’ve finally got it sorted out, ridiculously high idle, replaced the diaphragms/slides - and I took my carbs apart yesterday... You know that rubber piece that goes in under the pilot jet? Well after I drained my carb, it was all swollen. Why is...
I can now remove as much rust as possible through Electrolysis, which is using water and electricity. It's a 1-3 day process depending on how well you want it done. It can take up to 5 days, really depending on how bad it is inside. I can only do one tank at a time for now, until I'm able to get...

This might be a dumb question but I'm looking to eventually buy an aftermarket fuel tank and it has 3 petcock ports already welded into the bottom of it.
I will probably be using the two 1/4"NPT fittings for petcocks. My potentially dumb question is what is the best way to seal up the...

It took me a while to get my XS650 running right. With the help of everyone on this forum, luckily, I think I finally got her running the way she should be. With continuous changes to the carburetor, I finally think I figured out the perfect set up. First I adjusted my cam chain to spec, timing...
Any one ever had this stuff build up on their gas cap? It wasn't there a month ago. Should I be worried about anything other than the cap it self rusting? Is it something to do with the fuel?
I'm running a 5/16 ID fuel line from the tank through a brass T fitting into two Mikuni Vm34's. I've double checked everything, the petcock flows freely, the gas line is free of debris but when its all on the bike together the fuel doesn't flow freely. there is a tiny bit of flow and air all in...
Hey guys,
Yesterday I put my carbs back on after rejetting.. get everything hooked up and ready to go and Splash, Im leaking gas from the left engine case. Its a oil, gas mix. I pull off my left side cover and fuel and oil are leaking out from under the rotor. I pull my oil plug and I've...
Can someone help me? Getting kind of annoyed, not sure what to do now. Got an 82 XS650. Just recently put a Pamco ignition on and cleaned my carb, putting new seals all around. The problem is I have a leak on my right float bowl drain screw and drain hole. I put new screws in and it still leaks...
Got a brand new tank and it's rusty in less than 2 weeks. No I didnt use any kind of coating but i figured that my bike is 30 years old and the original tank wasn't coated on the inside so I should have 30 years on my new tank. I dont expect it to not rust but What happened? Is that normal...
Alright, since I am new to this bike and engines in general, I apologize for my ignorance.
What kind of gas mileage should I be getting on my 77 xs650? Last check was 33+. It is basically a stock bike, no upgrades.
When I first start my engine, it ticks (lightly for a bit). Is that a...
