    Muffler advice

My 1976 XS650C is nearly done and looking for a black muffler that will go with my stock wrapped headpipes. I'd like something with a tunable or repackable baffle that is not tinny, raspy sounding or crazy loud. Looking for a low deep tone. The emgo 17" 84038B looks interesting but is hard...

Maybe a good alternative muffler, with a close to stock look.

In BMW airhead circles, "Hoske" mufflers has been a highly regarded modification since the 70s. And they happen to look very similar to the stock mufflers on my 1977 D-model. They come in 2 sizes, for 38 and 40 mm OD headpipes. So no need for unsightly adapters etc. And being designed for...

    Aussie Exhaust

Well the engine, shock, tank, seat and new steering head mounts have all been welded in by my maestro John Wilkinson. He’s also fabricated linkages for the second hand Harley forward controls and a mounting bracket for the Katana rear disc. It’s time for exhaust and I’m going to give it a go...

    Stock headers, mikes mufflers?

Hey everybody, first technical (read: begging the advice of guru's) post here so bear with me. I got my wheels off to paint and yanked the exhausts as well, as I bought some heat wrap to do the headers. Now that the stockers are off, im hating the look of them & the connecting tube is kinda...

need advice on choosing replacement mufflers

Hi all Have a 1975 xs, the mufflers are dented and I would like to switch to either the commando or taper tip mufflers (Mikes) for a shorter exhaust look. I assume the commando is the quieter of these two choices, I would like a little rumble, not too loud. Will either of these work with...

    Super Newb Question on Exhaust

I've got a '73 TX650. Came with stock header pipes and mufflers and a set of shorties in a box. I like the look of the shorties and want to put em on. Is the muffler welded to the header pipes? Or does it just take some yankin' and bangin' to get em off?

    My new homemade pipes!

Hi again, and thanks again for this site- Here are some pictures of my huge old pipes (ugly side were P.O. dropped not shown) and my new shiny semi-homemade pipes. I ordered those shorty pipes that we all see on ebay for about $19.95. I slapped them on and hated the sound and performance-...

Mufflers to fit my old headers?

Back when I got this basketcase the mufflers had holes rusted all through them. So I just chopped them off. Its an '81 with stock headpipes. Now that the bike is running, I'm wondering if there is a simple and cheap way to buy some mufflers and attach them to these headers??? If so what size do...
