    The Split Cycle Rephase

Food For Thought While this could be done with an XS engine I think the easiest way to build such an engine might be to use 2 rear heads on an old Ironhead Sportster engine with the front being the air pump and the rear being the power cylinder. An even better choice might be one of the old...

Pamco to a Dyna DC3 mini coil

I have a rephased (thx Hugh) now an XS750, with the Pamco electronics for the rephasing. I'm not using the green monster coils due to space limits. I'm using a Dyna DC3 mini coil, (dual output, dual fire; couldn't find a dual output single fire when I bought it). I know someone has done the...

Is my Rephased crank a righty or a lefty?

Hi guys, my crank was rephrased by a local (at the time) moto engineer a couple of years ago. I asked him to do a right side advance same as most people seem to do. He was going to do a matching cam for me but ended up saying (after having the cam and crank a year) that he was unfortunately too...

    277* rephase timing issue?

Hey guys, I finally got my bike running (sorta). I am having some issues with timing, I have a 1975 with a rephase, pamco rephase ignition, Hugh's cam, and the crank was done at a local machine shop. I just re-installed the whole electronic ignition unit as per Hugh's guide. I will try to...

    Degreeing my camshaft

I've found specs on the 447 cam at http://www.650motorcycles.com/isky.html What I'm confused about is whether I.V.O means intake valve opening or intake valve open. I guess I'm confusled because it mentions that it was checked at zero lash then it lists various lashes?... Maybe the dude...

Shipping Re-phase Parts to Hugh's Handbuilt

This may seem like an overly simple topic to make a post about but trust me, if you do it wrong there is some serious money to be lost! I just received my crank and cam back from Hugh and since I spent some extra $$$ because I of my inexperience with shipping 30lbs of parts in a USPS box, I...

    Rephase kickstarter issue

So I did a rephase last year, had everything sent out to Hugh's Handbuilt (did and wonderful job), and reassembled everything. Ever since then my kickstarter has been "mushy". Is there anything you should do differently when installing the kickstarter assembly after a rephase? I'm almost sure...

    Rephase and TCI ignition system.

Is there any reason I could not install a second pickup for the coils spaced 90 or 83 degrees (depending on 270 or 277 rephase) before the stock ignition pickup to operate a second coil for the right cylinder with an electronic ignition on an 83 Heritage Special motor? Seems to me that you...

    rephase cam and crank

I have been reading up on the rephase on the 650 motor and it sounds like a sweet deal for running it but the price tag does not. Is there anyone making the crank and cam regularly yet so the price tag has dropped? I like my bike a lot but I can't see dropping 3g into the motor. If anyone out...

Rephased motors! Where do you guys locate your coils? (If you use the rephased Pamco)

The title really says it all, just trying to get some ideas for relocating the coils. Currently on my non-repahsed motor my coil is in the stock location. But when I do get around to rephasing, idk where in the hell to put them so they're in a good looking and functionable spot.

    Engine Rephase Rebuild Thread

So, I am sure a couple of you have been thinking (or taken part in) about a rephase. I have decided, after all the questions and answers on this thread to jump in. My goal is to be able to have a smoother running cruiser. Something that will take me past my current 4.5k vibratory limit. I just...

Does this rephase plan sound too crazy?

So, I have rebuilt the motor and driven it prob about 2k miles. It was my first bike build and first bike ever really ridden. I must say, it's been a blast and tons of fun. With all of these good times came one repeating problem: vibration. I have done a bunch of things to make this beast ride...

Can any machine shop split a crank and press it back together?

I was wondering if any machine shop would have the capability to press apart the crankshaft and rotate 3 splines and press back together. Im looking to do a rephase and as much as I want Hugh to do it for me I live all the way in California and don't want to have to ship heavy parts all over the...
