1971 Datsun 1200 B110 Project

Called all the local parts stores, none can even order me a rebuild kit, found one on thecarburetordoctor.com. And since I’m in there I decided to remove the manifold to replace the gasket. I noticed when I was removing the carb that it wiggled a little, all the adapter bolts were completely loose, that ain’t gona work.. And it looks like the manifold has been modified a bit, comparing it to images of a stock one.

And I was cleaning the glove box and found the ID tag which I thought was long gone, it’s a B110.

Went ham on the interior, the smell was getting to me and I wanted to see how it looked under there. Someone went crazy with the fiberglass, I’ll tackle that someday.. and found some more peekaboos. Could be worse, at least I now know where not to step :laugh:

Oh, ... that's too bad! You'd be better off being confronted by rotted floor pans than dealing with poorly executed and inappropriate repairs. Not to rain on the parade, but you need to assess the structural integrity of the car's monocoque structure before embarking on a repair/restoration project that is more complex than the car merits. I have made the wrong decisions in the past and found myself regretting it.

My suggestions is the assess the soundness of the front and rear subframe rails (just sheet-metal box structures, in fact), the strut towers, the roof rails at the gutters, as well as the rocker panels. If they're ok, then the car is generally structurally sound. If not, my guess is that you can find a better shell to work on, especially in So. Cal.

Not quite; Autolite/Motorcraft 2100 and 4100 were developed independent of Holley, in an effort to bring fuel control in-house by Ford. They were fed up with the teapot Holley 4000s of the 50s. Holley remained a supplier through the 90s, but the 2100/4100 carbs don't share any circuitry or parts with any Holley units. Holley's 2v was simply a cut-down of their 4100 series, which came out after the 2100/4100s.

I disagree. The 2100 may not be a performance carb, but they were great from a driveability and economy standpoint. The annular boosters of the Autolite/Motorcraft carbs were far superior for fuel atomization vs the Holleys. Combined with having a removeable air horn/top cover, and no gasketed seams below the fuel level, they required little upkeep to stay dependable.

Interesting project! Those 510’s had a reputation as being pretty sporty. Some guys have swapped in some bigger engines in them too.

I was a teenager in the 70’s , back when those small Japanese cars were everywhere. My folks had a Datsun B-210 that I used to drive a lot.

Then when I was just 17, I bought a brand new Toyota Corolla SR5 for the amazing price of $3850. 😄

Nobody was ever gonna confuse them with a sports car, but they were fun to drive. 👍🏻
I borrowed a 77? B210 from my sister one year, Was over heating one day in traffic and shut the AC down and ran the heater until I got home.
Don't recall how I fixed it after that if there was a leak or what.
