I picked up a 1971 CT90 for my wife. The gas tank looked like the tank was linked with tar. I figured it was a failed lining. I was just wondering how everyone else was getting it cleaned out. I have tried vinegar and backing soda, bowling water and also had a few small short chain and shaking the tank. I am getting ready to tie some Brillo pads on the chain with hot water. I have shaken this tank until I arms are sore.
Any help would be appreciated.

You might look on eBay I think you can get one for less than $50 shipped. That’s what I did on mine. I’ve restored about three or four of the CT 90s and I’ve had to buy two used tanks off of eBay.
